if i can clear up one thing -- people say steak fry. do you fry steaks?i always say this is the 37th annual steak fry, and we have not friday steak yet. they are all grilled. >> there is one area, the steak pit, where you bring the notables over. you will be doing then presumably with the clintons. how did that come about? >> i guess it came about because iowans want to know that their presidential aspirants like to have a good steak. i guess that is it, more than anything else. it became a photo op. we have had a lot of the same grillers or years. -- for years. aople get to come over, turn couple of steaks, and talk to some of the people grilling mistakes. we had martin o'malley. the names are coming back to me. arnaud malley spoke -- martin o'malley spoke at the steak fry. we had brian schweitzer, who was governor of montana. paul wellstone spoke at one of my steak frys. more and more people come to mind.

this steak fry is in its 37th edition and it will be the last tom harkins steak fry. he will be retiring, he announced his own candidacy at his own steak fry and it became a big one in 2007 when bill clinton and barack obama came here. obama clearly had the advantage with the enthusiasts here. there's lots of obama t-shirts and there's a lot of questions about what hillary clinton might be talking about and she hasn't said, she was asked if she's running for president. and just laughs, this entire audience believes she is running, they are very eager for her here. and even democrats including tom harkin are suggests that they want to know where she stands on issues. harkin supported president obama and now he says he's concerned that the democratic party has moved a little bit too much to the center. he has suggested he wants to get straight answers from hillary clinton so harkins can determine what she's not too far right to be the democratic candidate in 2016. >> from what you're reporting, the crowd is excited to see here, so i guess it's going to be exciting there

so this is the famed steak fry in which there is steak but it's not fried. senator tom harkins has long been seen as something of a king maker among democrats within the state. there was an indication that she was trying to play this for like this is still his event. >> absolutely. this was really kind of the perfect event for her to come back to iowa to come back to the place where she lost so badly in the 2008 caucuses because she could say this is all about celebrating tom harkin, former colleague in the senate, history with the clintons going back decades. it was really easy to sort of divert the attention to honoring him and electing 2014 democrats. >> and did you have the sense that there was forgiveness for what happened in 2008 for her lack of attention there? >> forgiveness on her part or on the part of iowa? >> on the part of iowa. is iowa ready to forget 2008 and move back? >> sure, i think so. you know if she does run, if she does come back to iowa and on a caulked campaign there's going to be -- caucus campaign there's going to be expectations t

she seems ready in iowa at the steak fry.she decides to run which i think she will, she would be one of the best qualified people to enter the white house. really she has been a senator and seen firsthand as first lady what the job entails and has been secretary of state and brings so much experience. she just happens to be a woman. >> she has the substance, but it is interesting in the wake of this latest event, a lot of blow back for how coy she is being. will it hurt that she has been so coy for so long? >> she is handleing it correctly. we have an election coming up and many don't know their mid-term elections, they are so focused on 2016. very, very important elections. hopefully to reelect a democratic senate to support president obama to make strides in the house and we hope we can work hard for that. it's appropriate for any announcement that was kind to come after the mid-terms. she said next year that the impression that she would make an announcement next year. >> she was there to support candidates that are hittin
