nbc's stephanie gosk has our report. >> reporter: spring break for the esmonds family was planned atndo in st. johns overlooking the caribbean. the father, a headmaster at a private middle school in delaware, the mother a dentist and their two teenage sons. six days into vacation, the family became so violently ill all four were air lifted to the u.s. apparently poisoned by a highly toxic pesticide methyl bromide. >> it's so toxic that in 1982 epa put strict rules in place stating clearly you're not to use methyl bromide indoors. >> reporter: as a u.s. territory, st. john is regulated by the same environmental laws. using methyl bromide indoors is illegal. but the epa says the extermination company terminix used the potentially deadly pesticide to fumigate the condo directly below the esmonds. extremely toxic and odorless, absorbed through the lungs first causes headache, nausea and dizziness but can lead to brain damage, paralysis and respiratory failure. the two teenage boys remain in critical condition while their father is stable and improving. and their mother is released and do

stephanie gosk joins me more with all of this.st year when the world's attention has turned to other things boko haram that extremist group, has basically gone unchecked in northern nigeria. moving to be an intractable problem for the military in that country as well as the coalition of military from neighboring chad and cameroon. it's not just the school girls, hundreds of attacks on schools and other communities in northern nigeria and at this point what people are hoping is that this anniversary and the refeud attention will reenergize that campaign to bring the school girls home. at a small high school in or gone three survivals of boko haram go to school. grace who did not want to appear on camera says she was one of 276 school girls kidnapped a year ago by the islamic extremist group. boko haram came in the middle of the night, posing as the military and kidnapped the girls at gunpoint. a day later grace says she told her captors she was going to the bathroom instead she ran for her life. today the 18-year-old is studying in
