we have a beautiful sculpture of sam houston and stephen f austin, done by a german artist working inexas, elizabet may. her statue is in display at the united states capitol. we have a monumental paintings -- the surrender of santa ana, and then david crockett -- both of which are massive in size, to do justice to a story larger-than-life, which is texas history. the battle of san jacinto was fought on april 1, 1836, 6 weeks -- april 21, 1836, 6 weeks after the loss of the alamo. mexican forces numbered about 1400, and the texians only 900. because the bridge had been destroyed, they were not able to receive reinforcements or to retreat. during an afternoon siesta, the texas forces attacked and were able to defeat them in less than 20 minutes. texas was able to have its independence from mexico. and we celebrate san jacinto day every year in texas. it is a state holiday. inside the senate, there is a portrait that shows stephen f austin in one of the most iconic paintings of his, i think, tenure, painted by an unknown artist, possibly in new orleans. other paintings would include lik

reporting live from the newsroom, stephen tschida, abc 7 news. >> thank you, stephen. stay on that one! the episcopal bishop accused of killing a cyclist in a hit and run crash is free tonight on bond. the bishop heather cooke posted the $2.5 million bond today through a bail bondsman. police say she was drunk and texting when she hit him december 27th as he was riding his bike in baltimore. cooke's attorney says the bishop is going to an inpatient treatment facility. >> a teacher's aide to those with special needs has been arrested. with a bag full of illegal drugs. casey johnson had been a teacher's aide at germantown elementary school. now, she's facing felony drug charges alongside the alleged accomplice anthony hack. only on 7 the montgomery county reporter kevin lewis is live with how this allunfolded. kevin? >> alison last friday night, police spotted a car traveling with a burned out spotlight. they actually pulled it over in this safeway parking lot and who and what they found inside of that vehicle has parents of more than 400 children stunned. >> that's good

stephen tschida is live on capitol hill with the breaking story. stephen? >> maureen, disturbing news coming out of cincinnati ohio. the f.b.i. has announced it has arrested christopher lee cornell who also went by the name raheel ubaydah. the f.b.i. alleges that cornell used a twitter account to post video statements and other content in support of the islamic state or isil. he is to have allegedly planned to circle the u.s. capitol with pipe bombs. he allegedly did research and took money in an attempt to acquire the materials and he's also charged with obtaining firearms to carry out mass murder here at the u.s. capitol. cornell identified certain members of congress as enemies of the islamic state and he is charged with trying to carry out some kind of jihady attack here at the u.s. capitol. who is not clear at this point is whether or not cornell had any accomplices but the f.b.i. in its statement did say that it believes other supporters of isil are relying on social media to express their views and lure others to their charge. cornell is charged with

school administrators and students at stephen decatur high in berlin, maryland, do not agree. however, the video is graphic and disturbing and maybe not suitable for everyone. scott broom is working with our colleagues at the salisbury daily times newspaper. >> reporter: journalists here first exposed trouble on the times' website delmarva after a student posted a racist image on instagram claiming he was in auschwitz. that was just one chapter in a very violent week at stephen decatur high school near ocean city. this cell phone video captured a white student being attacked by two african american students in the hallway of stephen decatur high school in berlin, maryland, january 21st. the n word is clearly heard in the exchange. the next day another fight in the mcdonald parking lot, an african american taking down a white rival. the white student was badly injured. in the middle of this gasoline was poured on the fire. a racist instagram image was posted that included swastikas, skulls, a noose and the phrase day of the rope hang them high, hang them slow. the user claimed
