affiliated with the democratic party when donald trump was elected, not even sworn in, buddied up to steve bannon to get a meeting with donald trump in the trump tower. >> oh, oh, and i shall note right now that that lady tulsi gabbard is doing the debate prep, playing kamala harris in donald trump's debate prep. how much are you looking forward to this debate? >> i'm looking forward to donald trump -- sorry, go ahead. >> yeah, so i think we all are on the same page that tulsi gabbard is no vice president kamala harris. good look at him actually being able to go toe to toe with tulsi because he has no chance with the vice president. but i think in a very serious note, the fact that there are federal indictments that are once again filed, and the doj is very clear on what he's going after, for everybody tuning in to us tonight, joy, it's really important that one of the things that he struck and reminded the american people that he is going after donald trump is that donald trump, in his shenanigans on january 6th was trying to vacate 80 million voters. it was the biggest act of voter suppression

looking towards -- >> not just those around him saying his opponents should be prosecuted, not just steve bannonting about it on a podcast, this is donald trump reposting things, saying it in his own words and flirting with the possibility. i think back to something david fromme wrote months ago before there was any debate scheduled between anybody, before the biden and trump debate, the idea that there could be two candidates on stage and they would be treated as both legitimate and both equal, they would be talking about economics and food prices, while one of those candidates tried to overturn an election, denied there was a free and fair election, and still continues to do so. the root level discomfort with equating that or making it on the same level as talking about, you know, policy agendas for the next white house, things as mundane, but as important as the economy, likening that or making it on equal footing with a guy that tried to stay in office when the voters kicked him out. von hillyard and ken dilanian and barbara quaid, thank you very much. >>> we'll head to southern georgia wher

he demoted manafort who would been trying to get trump to calm down his combativeness and made steve bannonef executive, both who encouraged him to finish the race in his own style. corey lewandowski, we know he's back. with him lagging in the polls, with fundraising go well for kamala harris, her crowd size so big, do you think a shakeup is coming? >> i think so. i think when things aren't going well, it's his tendency to look for a scapegoat. it's important to remember, he had three different campaign managers and won in 2016. obviously throughout his tenure as president of the united states, he had a lot of turnover inside his white house, and so i think it's just parts of who he is that when things are not going well, to look to shake it up. i would imagine that when you're bringing corey back, it's not because you think things are going great, you see the what polling trend has been, and you're looking to have a change and shakeup. >> so trump also has a tendency, as you know, to say everything that doesn't go his way is rigged. he said the 2020 election was rigged. he still says that.

i'm wondering did you lose out to people like steve bannon, people who were there to push their own agendaself-destructed in 2017 because of this extreme effort to push his own agenda. and to do so in a way that was, you know, extraordinarily toxic, you know, within the administration. and then finally the chief of staff, you know, said, hey, you just can't continue, and the president is the one who said he can't continue because it was clear that he was undermining, you know, the president's agenda and not being effective, you know, for the president, which i think is ultimately the criteria. i use another shakespeare metaphor, for him, and those who were working with him as, you know, the weird sisters, you know, in macbeth. they were constantly, you know, preoccupied with undercutting others. imagine if they used just a little bit of that energy, you know, to do something positive. >> yeah, you know, steve miller, stephen miller is still stayed within the administration the entire time, still very close to donald trump, would be part of another administration. is he somebody that you wou

when donald trump was elected, not even sworn in, buddied up to steve bannon to get a meeting with donaldrump in the trump tower. >> we're also learning more about how donald trump will be campaigning for the rest of the cycle, two sources familiar along with the trump campaign tell nbc news the secret service will be building him out a bullet proof shell of sorts for outdoor rallies. >> joining us now, nbc news correspondent, dasha burns. i want to get you to start first on tulsi gabbard. the other moment from the debate is tulsi gabbard going after kamala harris pretty successfully on marijuana incarcerations. why is she being used by the trump campaign now? is that part of it? >> well, look, you've seen her show up at various events. the trump campaign has a relationship with her. the campaign has said that trump doesn't need, as they say, traditional debate prep, but they say he will be meeting with respected policy advisers and effective communicators, like tulsi gabbard. also spotted at the hotel near bedminster where trump campaign staff are staying is congressman matt gaetz who he

>> well, we do know from the interviews that the special counsel's team did, that steve bannon, michaeljared kushner, were all seeing different pieces of just how short the campaign was on cash. one of the 302's from the fbi at the time said they were really pressing him for $50 million, they couldn't get 50, they couldn't get 25. eventually, they kept pressing him for 10 million, and he only agreed to do it on a condition that it was a long, that he could be repaid for this $10 million. remember, at that point in time, though he did win the election, it didn't look like he was going to win the election, and everyone around him believed he was no longer willing to put any more money into his campaign. >> you know, it's funny -- it's not funny, i shouldn't say that. i do recall at the time, special counsel robert mueller leading this russia interference probe, he is also leading this investigation or looking into this interference case. the public does not know about the egyptian one, it is hyper focused on the russia investigation. trump is out there saying, oh, it is all a witchhunt. f
