my favorite skit if i wasn't in it would be steve martin, "what the hell is that?"gotta say maybe "cowbell" was probably my favorite one. [ cheers and applause ] 'cause it started out, like, so, like -- you didn't know if it was going to be -- it was funny, but it was weird. it was more weird than funny. and then, so, usually on "snl," they put the weirder sketches towards the end of the show. so this was at the end of the show. but everyone turned it up. and yeah, it was really funny that night. and it was like -- i think it was my second week on "saturday night live." and i was a rookie, man. i don't know, i'm not in the, you know -- step up to the major leagues with these guys. and everybody -- the idea of the sketch was that they're recording "don't fear the reaper" and will ferrell is playing cowbell. and he keeps hitting it, and they go -- christopher walken is a a producer. he's like, "guys, we gotta do one more take. we gotta have more cowbell." [ light laughter ] so that was the idea of the sketch. but then, when we did it on air, everyone upped their game.
