i rise to pay tribute to john stewart who passed away in september at the age of 86 years.ohn led an accomplished public service career, mr. speaker. he was highlighted by his work on the civil rights act of 1964. and as an aide to then senator heubert humphrey. when he became vice president in 1965, john joined him in the -- and president lyndon johnson's administration. john left washington for knoxville in 1980, continuing his career at the tennessee valley authority as assistant general manager and vice president for economic and community development. mr. burchett: he retired from t.v.a. in 1994. he founded the georgia institute of administration in georgia and served as a consultant on the safety and advisory panel. all close to john can attest he cared about people in an extraordinary way. for example, after the 2008 kingston ole coal ash spill, they raised funds for workers whose health was severely hurt. he fought for people who couldn't fight for themselves. his generous spirit touched everyone in his life and he will be missed by all who knew him. he's sur privat
