this is about 50 miles northeast of stockton. the fire erupted monday, yesterday, in dry grass near the area. cal fire says it has grown to more than 3,000 acres, at least 100 structures are being threatened right now and evacuation orders are under way. the biggest issue here now is this fire threatens critical power infrastructure. if it is wiped out, this power infrastructure, it could impact the entire state's power grid and that means right here in the bay area. so far, this fire near stockton is at 0% containment. the location of this fire makes it even more difficult for those nearby to get out. 100 people trapped by the flames to take shelter at a pg&e powerhouse for safety. tonight, those people have been safely evacuated. nbc is in the fire zone for us. >> reporter: not . >> not the 4th of july i had planned. >> reporter: instead of fireworks they just got fire. >> this is the closest i've been to a fire. it was literally within feet of us. >> reporter: it started out a nice day at the north fork of the river in amador
