stuart varney joins us now, fox business network. stuart, this is an escalating situation. >> yes. there are rapid fire developments here and your money is very much at stake. first of all we have iran which may be about to be cut out of the oil payment system. if that happens, then they can not get any revenue for the oil that they sell. their economy is already very, very fragile. just last week they defaulted on a big payment for rice from india. almost at the verge of collapse is the iranian economy. therefore they can not afford to lose that oil revenue. in the first seven months of last year they took in $56 billion. that is about 100 billion on an annual basis. and because of this turmoil in iran, the price of oil this morning here in america has gone straight up. we're around $102 a barrel right now. because of that rising price of oil, we have the price of gasoline now hitting $3.51 per gallon. we are in the middle after financial war. there are dramatic developments on a meant by moment basis here and your money is at stake very clearly, martha. martha: indeed it is. what

trillion when in fact over the next ten years, he adds to the debt by $11 trillion >> joining me is stuart varney from the fox business network and co-host of the five, dana perino. our country stands on the cliff. we're on the verge of debt crisis. he puts forward a budget that doesn't deal with the debt problem, expands government spending, includes massive new taxes, senate hasn't put together a budget in over a 1,000 days. we learned that the president's chief of staff doesn't know how many votes it takes to pass a budget. >> what a mess. that's right. this budget adds to the debt, raises taxes and increases spending. at the end of the budget period, at the end of ten years, we will $26 trillion in debt as opposed to $15-16 trillion we are now. work the path. if this budget goes through, if it does, we'll be paying almost $20 billion a week in interest alone. that is not supportable. you can't do that. we are, therefore, heading towards a budget crisis. where lenders refuse us any more money unless they get a greater rate of return. a debt crisis just like europe, we're going in that directio

fox business network stuart varney, anchor of "varney & company". how many times have we had the plans? is this number five or six? >> i lost count but this is the new one. the broad outlines are as you stated, martha. if you have good credit and up-to-date with your mortgage you will be able to refinance even if you're underwater. that costs a lot of money. it will be paid for with a big new tax on banks. that's how this plan with work. now there are certain problems with that. number one, if you got a bank tax you're taking money out of banks. they have less money to make loans to stimulate the economy. number two, if you have a bank tax, you have to have legislation. that means congress would be involved. do you think congress would allow it just to be innocent borrowers who get helped? wouldn't they stick victims groups in there as well? that brings up moral hazard. the paperwork required would swamp the fha which is supposed to be the organization that gets this thing together. swamped with paperwork. that would probably happen. four, this is a

stuart varney, good morning to you. in a word will it work? >> for now, no, long term. they're already talking about a third bailout that will be required. there is a report to that effect as of this morning. you see, bill, all of this money has to be repaid. how do you get blood out of a stone? the greek economy virtually collapsed. 8% shrinking. 20% unemployment. they're being called upon to repay a total of what, $300 billion? it is not going to happen. they will need another bailout at some point in the future. bill: what does it mean for us here in the u.s.? does it mean much, stewart? >> no, financially not. we don't want to be like them. we don't want to have our debt situation gets a bad as greece's situation and end up in that situation. it is a warning to us more than anything else. bill: do you think, i guess your first answer takes care of this. we just saw protests we saw a few weeks ago in athens. they have been violent at times. i don't know if those scenes come back but are the problems for greece over? >> oh no, no. the problems for greece are going to

gregg: stuart varney, great to see you. >> thanks. martha: well funeral arrangements are now underway for singer whitney houston. her body was flown to her home state of new jersey late last night. police then escorting the golden hearse, there is picture on left-hand side of your screen, to a newark funeral home where they expect the rest of this will take place. there are reports that her family is planning a very large public memorial later on this week. we'll get continued word on that. the troubled megastar died saturday at a beverly hills hotel. cause of her death is undeterminedded right now. police say she was found in the bathtub. they're doing toxicology reports which could take 10 days to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role. gregg: there are so many reports about the number of drugs found, prescriptions involved. we're trying to sort that out. martha: whether or not different doctors were involved. doctor shopping all those kind of issues still to be revealed in this whole thing. gregg: part of the investigation. al

stuart varney from the fox business network. what is the very latest? >> i have breaking news for you from iran about iran. that international oil payment system is about to pull the trigger and exclude iran from that clearinghouse system. that would cut iran off from its oil money. that could happen at any time. the result of that is to push as you said, heather oil prices up and gas prices are up. it is $4 a fallon in connecticut, maryland and california, some parts of those states. we also have airline ticket prices going up $10 per round-trip at six major airlines because jet fuel prices have gone straight up. so a development out of iran. higher oil, higher gas, higher airline tickets and high prices at the pump are up. heather: you mentioned $4 right now. do you expect the prices to just continue to rise and how high do you think they will go? >> in the immediate future prices are likely to go higher still because that $103 per barrel price for oil has not filtered down to the pump. you have a week delay. if you get a 4% rise in the price of oil a

stuart varney joins us live. well, he has just staked out quite a position.ite to the president. >> i think so, yes. it's a direct opposite to what the president is proposing. president obama says tax the rich. regulate their income. establish a level playing field. that's what's fair. >> right. >> rick santorum is saying, i think the exact opposite. he's saying income inequality has always been in america and hopefully it will always be. he likes it. he thinks it's a good thing because if you got this pyramid of income, people strive to be at the top. brings out the best in you and the effort is rewarded. >> it would be nice if everybody was rich but it ain't going to happen. >> i'm not sure he's going that far but he's saying he likes that striving mentality that's always been a part of america and effort is rewarded and when you make it, and you make money, you create wealth for other people. that's what he's saying. it's a huge political gamble because that's running against the times that we live in, isn't it? >> sure, but they start at the same place. b

stuart varney in new york. martha? martha: you guys summed up the issue. let's look on this chart to give you a sense where we are. this a 2008 in the blue line. we're in february. prices at 3.03. you see how they take seasonal climb up into this area into july which is the peak at $4.06 back in 2008. look where we are already right now if we put on the red line here. we have $3.38 in january. we're up at 3.48 in february, okay? that is the zone we're usually in as we head into the spring. we'll likely see a much higher red line. that is what gets you to the potential for $5 a gallon gas as we head toward the summer period. this is a tough situation. you've got that money sucked away from other things people might want to spend their money on. that is why we get the potential for a cooling down in this nice economic mood we've been seeing bill. bill: want to show how it is hitting american families. last year the average family spent $4155 on gasoline. that is up over $800 from the previous year. when you look at 2011, a family spent 6.9% of their median f

stuart varney joins me, fox business network. stu, the president is out with his budget t was shot down in overwhelming way last time around. any luck perhaps this time? >> this is almost certainly dead on arrival. because of that looks more like a re-election campaign manifesto then it does a serious budget with likelihood of success. if you look at big picture, tax the rich, that includes people making more than $250,000 a year. new tax on millionaires. no structural change for medicare and medicaid. in other words, not going to rein those in too much over the next 10 years. don't touch social security at all. and, there is no deficit projection in this budget. yes, reduce it by 3 trillion over 10 years but that doesn't tell us how much extra debt we're actually going to pile up. result? if that is the big picture, that is dead on arrival. looks more like a re-election manifesto. martha: even given that, stuart, if he got the tax increases on wealthy that he would like to see, simultaneously allowing the bush tax cuts to expire

stuart varney joins me. the anchor of "varney & company" on the fox business network. stuart, this was not a part of the huge discussion last night interestingly enough, but continues to be a big story. >> not a single question on the gas price run-up, in fact we're in middle of rapid surge phase at the gas price run-up. huge detail there, 3.61 is the national average up just three cents overnight. look at california for a second. here is what a surge is all about. 4.14 for regular there, up seven cents just overnight. look at cincinnati, pick some individual cities, cincinnati the price of regular has gone up 27 cents in one week. in los angeles it is up 24 cents in one week. right now we're on track to beat the previous record year, 2008, very, very easily. 14% ahead of the pace in 2008. this is a surge, martha. martha: well, you think of the $40 that the white house put back in people's pockets the way they put it with the payroll tax cut. you wonder how much gets quickly sucked into gas prices as they're rising. we have a poll we want to take a look at looks at the

welcome, i'm stuart varney in for neil cavuto and this is you're world. drivers bracing with oil prices spike to go a nine month high. the price of crude crossing 105 bucks a barrel. today, iran cuts off oil to britain and france and promises it's just the beginning. the surge will spill over to the pump and in one case in los angeles, california, we're seeing gas at $4.93 a gallon. highly nourish unusual this time of year but it could be a norm nationally real soon. oscar, are you saying close to $50 a gallon for regular unleaded in various parts of the country very soon? >> stewart i'm saying that this could very well happen very, very quickly. we have what's now a 103, 102 staging area so we'll be 107.5, 108 in the price of crude. when that happens you have a mim $4, closer are to $4.25. if we get to that huddle we have a projection of 116.80 to 117. >> stewart: oscar, my head is spinning. with all the charts and technical jargon, my head is spinning. you're saying the price of crude oil is priming to sharply higher in the immediate future and that wil

stuart varney is here with more.us what happens, your unemployment benefits run out and so you say i have this other disability that you need to help me out with? >> that's what appears to be happening. at the moment, we have a very substantial number of people whose unemployment benefits run out, goes straight on to social security disability. we appear to be substituting social security disability in place of unemployment benefits. so the number of people on disability has exploded. this artificially pushes down the unemployment rate and it bleeds the social security disability fund to the tune of $200 billion a year. it's already running at a deficit, it will totally run out of money in 2018 so we're adding to the overall deficit as we artificially cut the unemployment rate. >> is that because, stuart, once you go off unemployment benefits and go on disability benefits, you're pulled out of the system. >> yes, you're no longer considered unemployed. you're out of the system. you're out of the labor force. you are
