this is a suburb very close to denver. there is no confirmation as to whether or not there have been any fatalities or how many people may have been injured. what we are getting are reports of 20 to 30 people that could have been injured and taken to a local hospital, three local hospitals. again, one person has been arrested, but police do not have any other immediate details because the scene is still very active. you can see there, dozens of police officers there on the scene trying to gather as much information as they can. they have very little information to release. this is what a spokesman told us during a brief news release that they had given people. you can see there at least one witness that was talking to one of our affiliate producers there. there was a witness that spoke to "the denver post" that said he was watching the movie when he heard a series of explosions. he said that people ran from the theater and there were gunshots as police shouted "get down!" he said he saw people falling, including one young

aurora, colorado, is a suburb of denver, about ten miles east. and as many people have pointed out this morning, not too far from littleton, colorado, where on april 20th, 1999, they had a mass casualty shooting of their own, as you all know. the suspect, again, is in custody. police say no evidence of a second gunman, but they're taking every precaution. they want to make sure they get everybody together that they can on the scene. they're interviewing really tens and hundreds of witnesses at this point. you heard a reporter from "the denver post" telling us they're giving out business cards to make sure they don't reinterview people. there are so many people on the scene. they want to know what they've heard. some of the eyewitness accounts we've heard, talking to media outlets, witnesses saying they heard anywhere from 10 to 20 shots and little explosions going on. shortly after that, they heard people screaming. they came on the p.a. system and said everybody needed to get out. that's a quote from one of the witnesses inside theater 9. we hav

that suburb is about 10 miles outside of denver. our own sherri ly is live with the latest on this developing story from our newsroom. sherri? >> tony, the gunman fired into the crowd at close range, hitting people at random. some of them children. people scrambled to get out of that crowded movie theater as shots were fired. you're looking now at a live picture of the apartment where the suspect lives. swat teams preparing to go in searching for possible explosives or other weapons there. as the shots were fired in the theater, some people were dressed in costume for the premier. the shooting erupted during the midnight showing of the new batman movie, "the dark knight rises." the wounded ran from the theater. if you look at youtube video that we have, you can see that some of them were running from the theater with blood on them, clearly injured in this shooting. others reported police carrying and dragging bodies out. ten people died at the theater. another four at the hospital, with 50 others that were injured. police say the gu
