ian cole is live in sunnyvale. i understand the call came from the suspect's half sister. >> reporter: that's right, jessica. police are saying that a call came from inside of a ground floor apartment here to 911. a woman claiming she'd been sexually assaulted by a male relati relative. polices respond. when they arrived they found a man alone inside the apartment holding a knife. police say the man charged at the three officers. and the unidentified man was taken to the hospital where he died. none of the officers were injured. police are not saying how many shots were fired or what kind of knife the man was carrying. now, this block of ayala is closed down right now, although it's not affecting much of the traffic here or in the surrounding veets. police say they expect to be here for a little bit longer, but they aren't saying exactly when they'll be wrapping up. this is the third officer-involved shooting for the sunnyvale police department this year. >>> thank you, a new report with the same warning. the u.s.

sunnyvale police are searching an apartment complex after an officer involved shooting there killed a man. >> it happened at south bernardo avenue and evelyn avenue. azenith smith is there with the latest. >> reporter: it is an active police scene. crime scene investigators are collecting evidence. they are taking photographs and essentially, piecing together what happened and what led up to this shooting. here is what we know. around noon this afternoon, officers responded to a report of a family fight happening at a downstairs unit. when they got here, they found an adult man armed with a knife who they think charged at the officers. three officers then shot at the suspect at close range near the doorway of his apartment. the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he later died. we listened to scanner traffic of the call made to police where a woman says a man forced himself on her. you also hear shots fired. suspect down. no officers injured. police would not elaborate on the type of knife this man had. who this man man was or the nature of the call. the officers were not inju
