i'm not concerned about 580. 680 shows the build through pleasanton and sunol, that's the concern, as folks make their way south toward fremont, the crest, blocking the fast lane, southbound 680 at auto mall, the off-ramp uses the same exit to get to the roadway, changes name there. no injuries but the crash blocking the fast lane and the commute is starting to build heading south toward mission boulevard. south bound 880 slows towards hayward. typical past san mateo bridge. you see the map here, bay bridge toll plaza, where metering lights are on, we know you have your backup filling in the toll plaza past west grand and heading in toward the maze. low clouds with visibility on the roads is fine. visibility of the bridge impeded by clouds. golden gate bridge has fog on the northern side. you can't see the south tower and you can't see northern lights across the bay into san francisco. but typical slower drive building into san rafael where there may be fog. under the golden gate bridge friday at 11:00, fleet week. folks might start to come into town early as tomorrow. >> the crowds a

approaching 680. 680 southbound i spoke to a couple of commuters on the 680 commute from san ramon to sunol getting slower and slower. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. the traffic doesn't look too bad. the mooterring lights are on as you come through. as we bring steve in here, we don't have to worry about that rain for the morning commute; right? >> that is correct. we are good to go for that. because it's all to the north. although there is pretty good rain totals to the north. it will be cooler today. yesterday was warm. we had 80s. livermore and east san jose. 82 and 84. 68 and 66. there is a system moving in. it's producing pretty good rain on the north coast. if it's not to ukiah yet, that means we have a ways to go. you can see there is plenty here. there is cold air coming in behind this system. they dodged a bullet. and then hurricane and now tropical storm anna. it stayed 70-100 miles southwest of the islands. lots of clouds and rain. no serious damage. it continues to move away. it did make it to hurricane strength. but again the track could have been right over him. pretty

a live look at our sensors coming through the sunol grade.entioned that earlier crash southbound 680 approaching highway 84. there might still be some activity there off to the right- hand shoulder because it's slow. it's one of our slowest spots now as you can see just in that area. a lot of our travel times are actually down. it's been a quiet morning commute. we had a stall sounds like a stalled truck westbound 580 at vasco. there's a slight brake light or two behind it. you can see 22 miles per hour. but the drive time this is way down from typical commutes 22 minutes between the between the altamont pass and 680. over at the bay bridge the meet met were turned on this morning at 5:43. so you were stacked up through the overcrossings but i got to say your approaches are actually not too bad. it's the sensors showing slowing end to end across the bridge itself so coming into san francisco, those sensors show 16 miles per hour. everything is fine across the golden gate bridge out of sausalito. golden gate transit buses are not on strike. ju

this is sunol, remember, and this is what emeryville looks like. still nice and cloudy this morning. tomorrow we cut off a lot of that cloud cover and as a result temperatures are going to be much, much warmer. 81 degrees, not a bad day in san jose, 66 degrees for the city today and about 81 degrees meanwhile for the north bay. let me take you through the changes, saturday, temperatures jump five to ten degrees on average. close to 80 degrees on sunday in san francisco, and a lot of people will be headed out for fleet weekend. temperatures are going to be warm, but that's the place to be if you want the cooler weather. as we head throughout monday, into tuesday, you'll see here that heat starts to break a touch for san jose. we'll be at 74 degrees by tuesday, and that's when you're going to need your umbrella, the first of a series of storms moves in and our future cast models are looking promising. we stop the clock at tuesday at 8:00 p.m. this is mostly going to impact the north bay. everybody getting a little rain, free car wash as we meet back

this is the view after and around sunrise from sunol there in the east bay hills. you can see the high clouds looking to the west, moving from west to east, coming at you right there in the camera lens. thin high clouds, outer fringe of a storm system, but in the meantime, we're seeing a ridge of high pressure keeping things dry and warming up our temperatures. alameda, 72 degrees. 72 in walnut creek. 65 in livermore. all these locations should see your highs easily reaching the low to mid 70s this afternoon. san jose, also climbing into the mid 70s today. upper 70s around morgan hill and campbell. notice san francisco, upper 60s and 70s there, too. for the north bay, at least another day, call for 70s. cooling tomorrow as the clouds thicken up and rain chances increase. into the tri-valley, already in the low 70s. we should finish the day in the upper 70s. so right now, you see the high clouds out there. notice no rain showing up on the radar, but not all that far away. in fact, north of mendocino county and towards ukiah, watching showers coming on through. this

here's a live look at sunol, where many places across the bay area, temperatures are going to soar. christina loren watching the mercury. good morning to you. >> good morning. and it is a rising. i can tell you right now, that picture just screams hot, and you know what, our hills are thirsty for rain again. even after picking up over an inch in some spots last week. so we've got a little something for everybody. first the heat, then cooler weather and maybe some shower activity. let's focus on the heat. let me show you what's causing this. you can see these clouds clearly arcing up an around a big ridge of high pressure turning our winds right back offshore, so as that wind moves from land to sea, it's negating the marine influence and as a result look at these temperatures. we're at 77 degrees right now in half moon bay. it's not even lunchtime just yet. we could break some records today. we have a lot to go over when it comes to the heat and we're talking rain in your forecast. now, back to you and rest of the top stories of the day. >> thank you, christina. investigators are loo

i want to show you a really cool time lapse from sunol. although the shower activity we're tracking right now is very light. you can see the front coming in, draped over the entire bay area. coming in vertically. and this is going to kick up wind here in the south bay as we head throughout the next half hour. we're not seeing a lot of shower activity. but enough to certainly get our hillsides nice and moist, which is good news when it comes to fire danger. and also, enough to give the bay area a nice cleansing. and so tomorrow morning, we'll wake up with good air quality. as a result of the showers coming through here, we like to do a little storm tracking from time to time. and right now, i can tell you, all this activity is going to start to press onshore as we head throughout the next two hours or so, but expecting a little bit of that moisture. 57 minutes away from mountain view, about 40 minutes, though, away for some steady rainfall in woodside. grab your umbrella, keep it with you for today. ditch it by tomorrow. sunshine, good air

smooth from sunol. north bound 101, stretch where there's appreciable slowing. 87 and 28 through downtown. san jose maintaining speed limit. wednesday's lighter traffic flow than tuesday traffic. saw a lot of traffic all over the bay. right now typical slow drive from 238 in towards 84, dumbarton bridge, south bound 880, nimitz freeway. bay bridge, typical volume. look at bay bridge toll plaza, talking about oracle open going on in the city. howard closed between 3rd and 4th through saturday evening that might be additional traffic heading there. fas-trak lanes smoothly. getting into the area, oakland smoothly for 880. no issues through downtown or off the freeway the bay bridge. north bay, southbound 101 volume starting to build. glow to the lights, visibility's fine. top of the screen, you don't have that aura like we did last couple of days with fog. visibility and traffic flow moving nicely through san rafael. >> you always have a nice aura. we can keep the aura going here. >> nice of you. 6:22. if

right-hand shoulder may still be some activity there but obviously no problems through pleasanton or the sunol as far as the speed limit all those speed sensors still turning up green. oakland 880 still fine even on the approach to 92 as you head towards the san mateo bridge. westbound 580 that's one of our slowest drive times out the door. and for 23 minutes that's good for this time of the morning. 880 and the eastshore freeway also clocking in problem-free. it's a friday. so on this day we like to ask, what drives you crazy on your commute? we got this one from one of our colleagues. in c ia.. it is considered illegal to go over the speed limit. but you also can' >> all right. well, in california, it is considered illegal of course to go over the posted speed limit. but you also can't go so slowly as to impede the flow of traffic. it's a fine line and it's not often a clear one. but bottom line, driving too slow in the fast lane can lead to confusion, aggressive tailgating and road rage. no one wants that. so if you are a take your time kind of a driver, stick to the right. we want to know

. ♪[ music ] >> southbound 680 heading through the sunol grade, it is much better than usual. can tell it is a friday out the door. 65 miles per hour as you head out of pleasanton. bay bridge toll plaza stays the same. almost to the maze. metering lights were turned on on the later side used to be on the earlier side but now 5:48 on the later side so yeah you're looking okay right now on all the approaches, moving for the most part at the speed limit. carquinez bridge to the maze as you may have seen there is still in the green. mass transit systemwide no delay for bart. golden gate ferries, caltrain, ace train one, ace train three, a few minutes behind schedule but key kept it at no delay because it shouldn't cost you a lot of time right now. out the door we go. san mateo bridge looks great, 14 minutes out of hayward to foster city. if you are hopping on 101 along the peninsula, there has been an accident in san mateo northbound 101 approaching the poplar exit. we are seeing a few showdowns -- slowdowns in the area on the northbound side. southbound is great past 92. and out

you are watching the sunol grade. everyone behaving?t really a good alternate. not only is 680 very slow, but it's also slow on 880. we've had problems in the way here heading down to the fremont area and ultimately into the valley. i will show you the map here. you can see 680 and 80 both in the red. it does finally get better by the time you reach milpitas. when you get into the valley, 101, 280 and 85 are slow. if you have the luxury of waiting around, you may want to think about that. northbound 17 has been a big mess coming organizer the hill because of the red -- coming over the hill because of the red roads. the bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for 30, 35 minutes. another day of a lot of cars today and tomorrow in san francisco because of the baseball game and the big software conference. 8:47. let's go to steve. steve, again, i'm not bringing any rain gear, right? >> so you are not going to the basket we'ving class at 5:00? >> i forgot about that. >> i think you are fine. take a jacket. it will be cooler yesterday. we do have
