it is blocked off all the way over to sunol. this is as far as we have been able to get so far, but here is what we have learned from the chp, that there was a mudslide on 84 here, just before 4:00 this morning. it came down hard and struck a car hard enough to deploy the car's air bags. we don't know about injuries, but we have seen in the last few minutes a tow truck arrive, as well as a piece of heavy equipment, like a bulldozer. obviously they'll try to start cleaning some of that up. now, we don't know the extent of the damage. we have to wait until daylight to see how much of it is, how much mud there is on the roadway there, but we're told that it's fairly extensive that the cleanup is expected to take a while, could even take a few days or so, at least that's the estimate right now. again, niles canyon road here shut down from where we are on the fremont side to sunol. as we get more information about how extensive this mudslide is, we'll get back to you. i'm roz plater, "nbc bay area news." >> thank you so much, roz. >>

also for sunol, we could see a burst of snow on highway 84, but that's all closed right now. so that's good news for mike, and then also seeing some of the showers moving through. let's head over toward the peninsula, where, as you climb up in elevation on the santa cruz mountains, it's a wintry mix showing pink there. most of the pictures show so cold, it's a cold rain. we head down to santa cruz mountains on highway 9, where as you go through boulder creek and down toward ben loman, it is snowing right now, and also for mt. hamilton, it's snowing as we see the bright white showing up there on storm ranger. so a lot to track here, as we get the last little push of this moisture coming through with this cold front, sweeping through the bay area, and then as we go into the rest of the morning, this will start to wind down. by 7:30, still only a few spots getting the hit or miss wintry snow showers and by 10:00, 11:00, we're starting to see our skies clear but it doesn't warm up that much as temperatures reach the upper 40s and low 50s today. at least we'll see improved driving

it will be cold again tonight but as we take a look at sunol, this had a coating of snow yesterday. that's gone and it's back to green. as we go throughout the day, i'm taking in everyone's pictures. we are still going to see the snow coating the hills in the distance over san jose. this is a picture sent to me by lisa unruh showed me the view out her window in mt. hamilton hills. it looks beautiful. we're heading into the low 50s for our highs today. most of us seeing those temperatures well below normal. oakland today, 54 degrees and 52 for the high in napa after the 20s this morning. we have a couple more days of some dry weather. we see the next storm system cranking up out there in the pacific, as we time it out and see when it will arrive, it looks like by friday morning we'll start to see showers move into the north bay. it may be heavy at times. even a chance of some snow around lake and mendicino counties northward. and more snow throughout the weekend. it is going to bring some decent rainfall totals once again to the bay area and more snow. take a look at how beautiful th
