susan lee from cnbc asia.ll be joining us as soon as he's done trading the day. also with us our own mary thompson and "fast money" trader tim seymour. >> mary, walk us through the action today. it was basically a rally all day. >> it was. for the most part the markets moved higher all the sectors with broad based rallies and we saw a little bit of a pullback midday in the oil sector and the sandouts of utilities and health care and topper forming for the s&p throughout the year. it's the dow utilities of a record close and retailers supported by early indication that is the situation for holiday shopping seen pretty much in line of expectations. that being the strongest reit growth in holiday sales we have seen in just about three years. again, coming into it off the record highs of a shortened trading session on wednesday, at least for the dow, we continued it today. albeit as you mentioned light volume day. >> tim, what do you do here heading toward the end of the year. often the nature of the market will c

susan lee, get over your jet lag, too, by the way. >> have a great weekend, everybody, and to you, bill. >> fast money begins right now. >> fast money starts right now. live from the nasdaq market site in new york's times square. i'm scott wapner and our traders -- tesla announcing an upgrade for its roadster model today. plus, an analyst who says the stock is going to 4$400. but first, our top story. christmas is over, but the santa claus rally may just be getting started. record highs for the s&p, dow and the small cap. russell 2000 index, which hasn't hit a record since march. stocks have seen quite a comeback in the last few weeks. the s&p up 5%. . energy and utilities, the biggest winner since that date. do you stick with these names into the year and beyond or is now the time to make a change is this. >> i think there's stuff you want to change in here. the stuff's that's run in the last few weeks. we talked about the integrated names, i also think these guys have moved 10 to 15% above the board. didn't cut and created this havoc. i think it's a place where you take some problems.

susan lee, how are we looking right now? >> let's check in on the markets. with less than two hours left in the trader year 2014 stocks are struggling to get into the green. what a year it has been. the nasdaq and the s&p are on pace to close out 2014 with double digit gains. the dow is up more than 8% since january. not a bad year. >> not at all. we know this. one may be the loneliest number but seven is the figure we are focused on. if the s&p 500 rises again next year it will be the seventh straight year of gains. how likely is that to happen? bob, what say you? will 2015 be another up year for the s&p 500? >> i think 2015 will be a good year for the overall market. right now i'm expecting 2,265 for s&p. first of all, we have to look at the positive trends that are out there. things like manufacturing, the service sector, the unemployment trends. the inflation outlook, consumer spending and commodity prices acting as a tail wind. in 2015 what you are going to see is additional consumer spending. people find themselves with $20, $30 extra in the pocket the

we know that mike lee and ted cruz will go to great lengths to get what they want, and yesterday we heard from a number of republicans from the moderate republican senator susan collins in maine all the way to the conservative senator in arizona. they're not very happy with ted cruz. >> right now the u.s. marshalls are joining a manhunt. the authorities there captured two out of the three inmates who broke out of jail after they apparently over powered a security guard yesterday. the man you see on the right side of your screen is gemmel. he is now in police custody. also justin terrell gordon was captured yesterday. he was being held on robbery charges there. now, the county sheriff says it all started when a jailer opened the cell door because he thought one of the inmates was very sick, but once that cell was opened, the men attacked the guard and were able to flee. the state remains on high alert. the alabama state bureau of investigations is helping with the search there. >>> dick cheney weighing in once again on the senate's torture report. >> it's a very, very poor piece of work. it should not be used to judge the agency or the program. >> we asked a f
