swift water rescue, you believe needs to be the first wave.e you anticipating will happen in the first impact? >> well, through our cooperative relationship dhs fema, we have a federal task force that is on the ready 24 hours a day. as you said, one of the components of that task force is our mission ready package for swift water rescue. these men and women will get a complement of gear together. they will leave in the next hour or so. they will be ready to respond to any type of floodwater or swift moving water event, whether it means pulling people out of their homes or just getting people to dry land so they can be evacuated to an area where they can shelter until the water begins to recede, if it becomes a water event. >> from the time of hurricane hugo, that was the last biggie up there that did tremendous damage, one of our experts was saying it was the most expensive can catastrophe of its kind. now you have more population density in the same areas that were hit. what does that mean for you? >> well, it means that obviously it becomes

marines at camp lejeune and they've got swift water rescue teams from indiana here to help.hey're going to need all these resources, guys. >> brian, you were mentioning, too, i know you have been in touch with emergency officials there. have they given you a sense of the number of calls that they've been receiving from people, especially in these last few hours as the water's beginning to rise? >> you know, they won't quantify the number of calls but they're saying there are a lot of them. they do have more than 300 people in a couple of shelters. and about 200 of them have had to been either pulled out of their homes or have made their way themselves from their homes to the shelters. so it's pretty drastic situation here. some of the water is starting to recede a little bit. they're clearly not out of the woods yet in neighborhoods like this where they have to have high-water rescues. >> brian, with the latest for us from onslow county. local residents telling us they cannot remember flooding of this magnitude. some can remember terrible flooding because they had to deal wi

>> well this year a lot of rescues were at night and it was swift water. fast water.came up fast. and a lot of the rescues were in cars, other people tried to get out and escape and the water came up so fast and it hung them up and they had to get out of the car. >> when you came perfect baton rouge -- you came from baton rouge, you don't bring boats or cars. how did you get in. >> we brought our own boats in here. >> you did? >> we did. we operate and get the lay of the land and look around and we check the conditions and we come in a day or two ahead and that is what we do. >> wow. and what brings -- what makes you do this? there are a lot of folks who would like to do something and don't get up and do something like you did. >> you look at it. the conditions are terrible. we've done this before and people don't know how to handle it. unfortunately a lot of us have dealt with this so we help our neighbor. that is what we do. >> you dealt with loss in katrina so you know what it is like to live through a storm. >> i know what it is like to live through a storm. this
