and acting deputy director of the california tahoe conservancy, joining us from south lake tahoe, both joining us by skype. thank you. you are in tahoe right now, how much snow did you get? >> i'm right here at the lake level, about four feet. it's over the guardrail on my deck and i sprints around the lake, even more. is quite a bit of variation in the mountaintops versus. >> there is a prediction that with current projections we are looking at a future the may not have so much snow in tahoe. can you tell us about where that research came from? >> the research came from a group of scientists including the university of california at davis that looked at climate model projections. that projection is under the most intense greenhouse gas emissions scenario and it found that snow would not regularly occur at 9500 feet or about. which would affect a lot of the resource. of course, if we don't do anything about climate change, it does require that, yeah. >> with current projections, with the don't want to to have, how solid is this data and what does that time i look my? >> we know that al

now, here's the view at lake tahoe, 36 degrees. if you watch the nhl classic outdoors, too much sunshine up there today, things now cooling overnight. we're going to see similar temperatures tomorrow, 40s for highs around lake tahoe. beautiful skiing weather. but you'll see plenty of sunshine for the afternoon and no new snow in the forecast as we head to the beginning of next week. you have 30s and 40s for highs around lake tahoe. that should the mid 30s in the tri-valley and north valley to start tomorrow. mid 60s in san jose. and check out morgan hill. santa rosa, napa, upper 60s, from there likely climb into the 70s. long range outlook for rain and sierra snow looks dry. high pressure staying to the west, will strengthen as it approaches the coast, about tuesday and wednesday likely to be the warmest days of the week. it looks like that rain is going to stay away from the bay area. look at san francisco. highs in the mid 60s approaching the middle part of the week trending cooler as we head towards next weekend. and you could s

i'm going to talk about the toyota tahoe report. good news is right now there are no chain requirements on the freeways heading up to tahoe. as mike mentioned you want to get there before noon today as the snow starts and could be getting up to a foot. if you're heading up to squaw alpine, north star or heavenly, less than three hours and 30 minutes for the drive right now. and no chains required on the freeways. and also sugar bowl, sierra tahoe, kirkwood, also chain free at this point. it is only a three-hour drive to sugar bowl. and even though there is less snow right now, we're expecting more snow this afternoon into tomorrow, so head for the drive to tahoe now or tomorrow afternoon as mike mentioned. kumasi. >> all right, thank you, frances. >>> this morning, a big announcement from taylor swift. the pop star surprised fans a few times over the last year. and now she has one more surprise sharing today on "good morning america." >> i'm so excited to share with you that tonight at midnight i'll be putting out my v "fearless."lo

so, the tahoe report looking great. good for travel reports around the sierra.d of snow around monday, another six to 8 inches of snow possible. the morning, chilly start. 30s and 40s for most places. dry start to the day. as we head into the afternoon, we'll begin to see the rain marching south and highs in the upper 50s from santa rosa to napa. 58 expected tomorrow in san francisco. so, hour-by-hour the morning looks dry. then by mid to late afternoon you can see the rain into sonoma county and we'll begin to see that pushing south probably about this time tomorrow. that should last into early monday morning and we begin to see the showers wind down. rainfall estimates here not all that big. highest totals likely around the coast. generally the bay area about a quarter inch or less, a few exceptions to the rule here and there. but again this system not bringing in a whole lot of rain. after that things are looking fairly dry until about thursday evening. you can see the next batch coming in. this is very typical of a la nina winter is the areas north of san fr

now, with all the snow we've had recently around the central sierra where lake tahoe is, we're now at of the normal amount of snow pack. and we'll be waiting to see what they get from those manual surveys that they get as they go out there today. we'll get the update later this afternoon. but we are getting more information about what the sierra could look like due to climate change in the next several years. some climate scientists are saying there could be a warming of 4 to 9 degrees average and that could put the snow level above 9,000 feet, that's really high, and lake tahoe about as hot as we see in san jose. that's if we do nothing. we've been giving you tips throughout the week on how to reduce our greenhouse emissions. we are going to see more of the sunshine in the forecast after today. it will be warming up this weekend. make plans to get out there and see that beautiful nature we have to offer in this area. we'll be watching for the warmer temperatures heading into the weekend. kris? >> we'll carve out a few hours for football watching but be outside the rest of the time. t

well some big changes are in store for tahoe.out the new plans to bring hockey to south lake tahoe on the shores of beautiful lake tahoe at edgewood golf course, the transformation begins for an nhl caliber hockey rink. yeah, we're on the were on the 18th fairway. so everything is a complete build. um you know what? doing the infrastructure built for ah, the media platform and the gm booth, um and the floor. it's the first of its kind venue amidst the mountains, the lake and the trees, a desire to showcase the true outdoor roots of hockey. the views are amazing. it's pretty tough to work. actually you know, you've got the mountains and the ski hills. you know, the resort here is beautiful. the construction is just getting started with local crews already hard at work. well, i know i've a local guy chris coming in from lake tahoe works at one of the local race here. he's going to join our i screw the shall, eh zahr being built that will serve his spaces for the general managers and announcers. the pipe run down to the field is und
