>> tammie souza has the answer, she's in the weather center. >> how late are you going to stay out? that will determine how many layers you need. through the early evening we'll be looking at the clouds. temperatures not too horrible. we're falling from the low 40s and into the 30s. as we take a look at our radar. you can see everything is quiet here in philly. but not the case if you head off just a little bit further to the west. here's the clipper coming straight out of canada. it's elongated as it moves through the western part of the state. it's got a rain/snow mix associated with it. that will be starting at 3:00, 4:00 in the morning. lingering on and off throughout the weekend, especially for tomorrow night. let's take a look at maybe what some of these snowfall totals look like? because that's probably what you care about, especially if you've got any outdoor activities with the kids tomorrow or any other plans. if you're up in allentown, you might pick up a couple of inches of snow. and that's because i don't think that you'll change over to rain. the rest of the area where

let's go to tammie souza talking about those conditions. >> you know, we were just mentioning how we were lucky we don't work outside because it was raw out there today. is will be horrible tonight as the skies start to clear, we will lose that heat into the atmosphere and it will get quite cold. we are about 6 degrees cooler today at the sam time than we were yesterday. look at current temperatures, only 2. we only ma only 28. we warmed a bit, 25 a couple hours ago. 28 is the daytime high. 30 in vineland, 29 in wilmington. the windchill is the big thing. you'll have to cover all that exposed skin. when you wake up tomorrow morning, windchills in the single digits, 3 agrees is what it will feel like in allentown. in philadelphia, it will feel like 11. if we head out to the jer shore, we'll be looking at windchills in the low teens. so the story here will be the cold. when i come back, we will talk about the warmup and go neighborhood by neighborhood to look at who is getting that snow this hour. back to you. >> philadelphia schools opened on time this morning. skyforce 10 flew over s

tammie souza is tracking the weather conditions in your neighborhood. thank goodness. >> you know what? that was three finallies wow: clouds have been drifting, a lot of cloud cover in the lehigh valley and berks county. we've seen sprinkles and this morning we had a light mix. not a real big deal. right now we are looking at 58 degrees. that's as warm as we've been all day in philly. the winds are gusting out of the southwest at 20 miles per hour. that's a good thing. we want the southwest winds to warm us up. our average on today's date is 56. so for the week, we generally have been up and down. sort of like a little bit of a roller coaster. yesterday was rather chilly. 58 the high so far today. it's tomorrow that you are really going to get excited about. we'll be looking at temperatures overnight tonight that generally stay in the 50s. we'll see the mid40s in the out lying areas and we'll launch ourselves towards the magical 70s. after that, you know, not so much. we'll talk about all of it when i come back with a full forecast. >>> thank you, presi

let's go to meteorologist tammie souza. tammie, it has stopped raining in some areas but far from in the clear. >> outside as we were just showing you cape may, you can see all the rain drops on the lens. the heaviest rain is falling in south jersey and cape may at this point not the heaviest. just kind of a steady rain has moved through there and a little bit of a break right now. you can see out here towards tom's river, that's where we're seeing the heaviest rain. burlington county and down toward atlantic city, you've improved vastly just over the last 15 minutes. in fact, right now the metro area of philly out to bensalem and cherry hill back to haverford, upper darby, all not seeing rainfall. i won't say there's not a drizzle or mist in the air. that is out there but things are much improved. pemberton, woodland, that's where you're seeing a more steady rain. winslow, you're in the clear right now. then we go down to cape may. you're looking at a light rain right now but things are kind of quieting down. we do have a l

meteorologist tammie souza has more on what to expect. >> oh, it's awfully fierce. it feels like january, right, glenn? nothing at all like march. although i think there's some light at the end of the tunnel by the time we get to the weekend. right now we're dealing with all this snow. glenn's right, you want to get out there and clean it up if you can. if you have time this evening. pace yourself. we are dealing with a half foot or more of snow. take a look across all of the counties. this is what has fallen. malvern picked up 7 inches, royersford picked up 7 1/2 inches, upper darby picked up 6 inches of snow. a substantial amount of snow fairly impressive considering all the sleet that fell and a little bit of ice mixing in with that. we thought these totals might be a little higher but not to be. here's something that you have to be concerned with, the temperature falling. we've talked about it. but this is the difference from the same time yesterday. so we're 8 degrees colder at the airport in philadelphia. and we're going to continue to see the temperature fall

nbc10 first alert meteorologist tammie souza is tracking where the heaviest rain is right now. >> it'sre near reading all the way down toward philadelphia, not quite in philadelphia and down into wilmington. also from cape may back toward atlantic city and up toward tom's river. so we're seeing it kind of sporadic across the area as for as where the heaviest rain is falling. right now let's just go in toward cape may because i think you're about to get hit pretty hard from villis to cape may out towards stone harbor and dennis. that's where we're going to see a very heavy downpour, probably lasting 20 minutes or so. the center of the storm still back here. it's making its way into parts of west virginia and still has to cross the area. so here's what's going to happen. let's take you through this hour by hour so that you know what to expect tonight. as that low starts to approach us, we're going to continue to see this heavy rain that's moving through the area. these are heavy downpours, not expecting lightning with this. by 8:30 tonight, still some pretty good downpours across philade

tammie souza has you covered. . >> it's going to be a rough one. we have issued a first alert for heavy rain. that's for all of us. this is new jersey, delaware and in pennsylvania. the entire philly area. friday and friday night. this is tomorrow morning's commute. tomorrow evening's commute. . the heaviest rain will be tomorrow evening's rush hour. we could see localized floding because the rainfall totals exceed 2 inches of rain. it could get to isolated areas. so you need to be able to pack all your patience, carry your umbrella, your rain boots, get the kids ready for this because it's going to be a long and frustrating day. the radar beams are sweeping the sky. we have some returns coming out of the areas up in the lehigh valley. even philadelphia right now has been slow to accumulate. but from philly to east pikeland, we are seeing some showers. where you see these areas of orange, that's where we're actually seeing the rain reach the ground. so that's where we're seeing the rain reach the ground. some of these areas may even see a clp of th

meteorologist tammy souza is breaking it down region by region. >> the problem on the jersey shore went that they got snow. and it was sleet and the ice that fell. you have to understand that this is snowfall totals, but it does include sleet and the freezing rain. so it's a little bit deceptive, but this is how it comes in being reported. 3.1 inches in burlington. 2.9 in egg harbor, sea isle picking up 2.8 and 2.1 in long beach. the problem here, the impact, it will be similar. i'll put that impact map up again. a moderate impact. below freezing and icy roads, treacherous travel. that's going to be the biggest problem there because all of that water that's not sea water is basically going to freeze and it's going to freeze on everything and make things even worse than they are right now. we'll be taking a look at another area coming up in just a little bit. but guys, back to you. >> the rush is on right now to get the roads clear before the freeze tonight. >> take a look at i-95 in south philly. not your typical afternoon rush, only a few cars out there right now. a live report at mont

first-alert meteorologist tammie souza is here with more. >> it's a puffy coat and poofy hair look today. the winds are out of the north. it's a very cold canadian air mass. look at the wind gusts up to 35 miles an hour in wilmington. atlantic city in 36. we still have gusty winds, but they are going to die off as the evening progresses. this is what happened from yesterday's 59. today's high was 53, but that was shortly after midnight. we spent much of the day right around 40 degrees. we are 18 degrees cooler at this hour today than we were yesterday. so you're really feeling it out there. here are the temperatures this hour, 40 in philadelphia, allentown at 35. 42 in atlantic city. it looks like we're going to dump off under clear skies to a chilly night tonight. take a look at the temperature trend as we watch the camera bounce across looking at philadelphia. look at the temperatures, you'll wake up at about 24 degrees in philadelphia. 22 in reading. wilmington, you'll wake to 24. stone harbor, 25. only going to make it to the low to mid-40s tomorrow. but i'm talking 70s, and that is

and meteorologist tammie souza has more on the snow totals neighborhood to neighborhood. >> this is going to be a heavy, wet snow, so if you're shoveling tomorrow, use your knees, not your back. what we have here is what looks like cotton candy. this is coming down from the pink where you see the heaviest snow expected, and of course that's going to be in the lehigh valley and burks and in the poconos. then we see upward parts of chester county, bucks. then we go into philly and into south jersey and that's where we also see accumulation on the shore, which i'm not going to focus on for snow totals. you'll pretty much not get anything. you're too warm, too windy and you'll probably see rain for much of the time. if you get any snow, it's going to melt rather quickly. let's jump in to what these totals are looking like right now. if we go to philadelphia, how the to chestnut hill, that's where the heaviest will be. these models have adjusted upward and downward. the latest model says 15 there. bear in mind that if this changes to rain and sleet, we're going to see all of these totals going

and meteorologist tammie souza has more on how much will be falling. >> glenn, something we were talking about, because it's a wet, heavy snow, we could see some of the tree branches coming down with all the new buds on them. so that is something to be aware of if you have a lot of tree branches that are over your house or over your roofline. this is going to be a heavy snow in some places picking up a foot of that, sticking to the branch that is are there. you might hear the crack of branches coming down toward dawn. all right, it looks like cotton candy. this is the map of the snow totals. again, the high end for the burkes and lehigh area and off into the pocanos, that could be more than 20 inches. it could easily be in some places with thunder snow coming down at two to three inches an hour. that could end up being perhaps as much as two feet or more. then we see this demarcation. it really rapidly drops off. and once you get out to the jersey shore, you're looking at much lower totals. we'll take a look at philadelphia specifically. all pretty much in the blue, which would be 8 to 1
