ktvu tara moriarty joining us live right now. what is happening there today?rter: you know i just spoke with one of the patrolmen here and he told me that some extra stuff was brought in last night to deep clean the school. to sanitize a lot of the surfaces that students might come into contact with. about 100 students actually were sent home yesterday and about 50 had called in sick. so the decision was made to cancel classes for today. now again if you are take a look behind me you can see the school here. this is saint ignatius prep. if you take a look at the high school's website you will see the reason behind it the stomach flu. the health department recommend the high school be shut down today to properly clean. there is about 1400 students that attend this private school. students say they other kids coughing and throwing up inside trash cans. we are told the bug began about four days ago and quickly spread. gastroenteritis is highly contagious. it's possible many more children could have been exposed. health officials are telling students to stay home

ktvu's tara moriarty joining us live with the details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning.court judge will let mirkarimi know if he can see his son. he's going to be asking for supervised visitation. that's what he tried to ask for last week, actually. but was denied an emergency request order. so he's back this morning along with his wife. they came here last week, friday, came to the courthouse with children's books he planned on reading to his son but never got that chance. he said he couldn't wait to see his son and wife and get back to some level of normalcy. that stay-away order issued after he was arrested on domestic violence charges last month which means he cannot go near his wife and child. his wife has said that he should be allowed to see his son, mirakarimi pleaded not guilty . meanwhile, prosecutors in a criminal court case filed paperwork asking that that a former girlfriend be able to testify. christina flores said he was aggressive when they were dating and he was manipulative and pushed her in a fight. according to the report mirakarimi typically took out

ktvu tara moriarty is on the scene of an early morning apartment fire and joins us now with the details. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. you know we have good news to report. no one was seriously injured in this fire. so that is the good news right off the bat. behind me there is a grown up of people standing. this is all residence that live inside this 16-unit building. it's a rather large building. they all made it out safely. that is the good news. let's take a look at the video we shot early this morning. one woman is being treated for smoke inhalation and other medical issues. the fire started if her apartment. she woke up when she smelled the smoke. the smoke detectors were working but that's not what awakened her. she was able to walk out of the apartment building here off of skyler street when those flames happened at 1:30. firefighters then went through the whole process of evacuating the people living here and as you can see again if we're back out here live, they are all standing here waiting for word to go back in. they will be allowed to go back their apartme

ktvu tara moriarty joining us live now to tell us what the students are demanding.ara. >> reporter: well, that is right. we are here in front of prowl hall. you can see the protestors gathered on the front steps. there is about 20 students from uc berkeley. there are a handful from occupy oakland that come here to show their solidarity. all are basically trying to draw attention to the occupy movement. they are not sure how long they will stay. but they have been here since 1:00 yesterday afternoon. they pitched a handful of stunts. uc berkeley place asked them to leave. they said we're not occupying the tents they are more just a symbol. demonstrators say they felt it was important to remind people that they an their message haven't gone anywhere. >> i think it's a lot of goals for occupy. economic justice. to keep tuition affordable. to have accountability for arrackicked a -- academic administration. >> reporter: these tenths went up three months after a police raid. at one point the protestors had a large paper machair mushroom on hand. one protestor said we're

ktvu tara moriarty is now learned what caused that fire.ou will only see here on two. what do you know, tara? >> reporter: you know the folks evacuated were let back into their apartment building a half an hour ago. we spoke to the battalion chief about the cause here. she said the fire started because of an extension cord in the bedroom. these again are pictures you will only see on two on the inside of that 16 unit apartment where the fire broke off. flames ignited in the bedroom of a 16 story unit. crews ported her to the hospital. firefighters were able to get the flames under control within ten minutes of arriving. >> through their quick initial attack we were able to contain it to the room of origin. started in the bedroom. the fire investigators currently investigating the cause of the fire. due to smoke conditions we evacuated the entire building. everyone has been accounted for. >> reporter: crews again evacuated the other people living in those 15 units. no one was hurt and there is no damage estimate. we're live in oakland i'm ta
