nbc news has learned via law enforcement sources that the wife of syed farook, tashfeen malik, posted a statement on facebook pledging her support for isis. msnbc's cal perry is here with me now as we get more information. but as i understand it, cal, this message was posted on the day of the attack. >> right. so, as we understand it, very shortly before the attack took place, she takes to facebook, she pledges her support for al baghdadi. he is the leader of the islamic state isis, daish, whatever you want to call it. that happened minutes before the attack. one of the things that's unclear, though, is the name that she used. it's not clear that she used her facebook page, but a different name, which makes it difficult to find out who's following her online. all of this fits with the isis m.o. of getting more people inspired by letting them know about an attack just before it happens. >> you're the technology expert here. we know the importance isis has placed on social media, whether it's facebook, twitter or the dark web, as it's referred to. but if she's placed her statement on an

we do know that tashfeen malik spent some time loving there while she was studying here. professor where she studied pharmacy has told cnn that she appeared like an ordinary girl like any other student. not too religious. she also studied at the institute. i spent some time there today trying to piece together more information about her to try to bring the pieces of this jigsaw puzzle together behind the mystery u of tashfeen malik. when, where and how was she radicalized. i spent to the institute to speak to them. i conducted a telephone interview with a spokesperson who said tashfeen malik was a normal student who was confident, hard working and positive minded. nobody at the institute could have imagined that she could be behind what they termed a horrible attack that is 100% islamic. do they hold any allegiance with isis. they said absolutely not. ist ist is un-islamic and only teach islamic scripture at the institute. they wanted to distance themselves from violence and extremism. so how then did tashfeen malik become so radicalized to become the killer that we know

investigators are looking a facebook post by tashfeen malik implied others were involved. the facebook post was in different name and shows a pledge to isis. earlier, numerous journalists wept into the shooters apartment in redlands, california. jeff flock was there. any clues that were found in any that speak to larger potential connections? reporter: deirdre, i was not one of the journalists that traipsed through the house t was a bizarre scene, landlords of couple allowing reporters and members of the general public to traipse through the house after the fbi had left it. the fbi said they were done. so that happened. in terms of what they found, the fbi already recovered two cell phones that had been crushed and thrown into a dumpster. in addition, recovering computer evidence as well. which led to that post on facebook, which apparently was not in the name of tashfeen malik but, they believe that she did post it, expressing her allegiance to, to isis. right at about the same time this shooting was takes place. kind of bizarre. as i said, there was an attempt to delete

. >> good morning we have new details about the mass shooting, including a pledge to isis by tashfeen malik. let's bring in pete williams who has been working this story. what can you tell us about this posting? >> natalie, several law enforcement officials told us that just before thek4 shootingn san bernardino, tashfeen malik posted a statement of sort for the isis leader, al baghdadi on a facebook page. they say this facebook page was not in her name but in an alias. they say the posting went up and a short time later it was taken down. now, this doesn't mean that the attack was directed by isis. it may not be any sign of that at all. but it does suggest that she was strongly committed to an isis philosophy and, in fact, in previous attacks, many people have posted statements of support just carrying out attacks and it's in a sense part of the isis playbook to have people make these expresses of support. isis itself has never taken ™: san bernardino shootings. it's possible that the isis leadership is totally unaware of this posting because lots of people post lots of things about
