a walkout would be the largest single employer strike in american history, according to the teamsterscutives, quote, don't care about their workers that make the company run. stock is up year-to-date. there's that year-to-date chart for you guys. what's interesting here is that ups is the backbone of amazon. you know, and so many other things in this country. but because of covid we have completely changed how we live our lives so this strike would be i think devastating to the u.s. economy if that happens, guys. maria: for sure. and we're seeing wages go higher because of the activism from the unions. that's going to continue. that's more stimulus, isn't it, john? >> you're right. the wage gains in the service industry are going to be hard to avoid going forward. look at the difference, i mean, we find that consumer goods inflation, tangible goods is less than 1% year over year but when we go ahead and look at consumer services, that's up by about 6.6%. two different worlds. we defeated inflation on the goods side but on the service side, forget about it. we've got a long ways to go.

workers on whether to authorize a strike if their union, the international brotherhood of teamsters, and u.p.s. cannot come up with a new contract by august 1. the strike authorization is expected to pass and is common during these types of negotiations. it does not mean a strike is in-evident him. and the two sides are continuing to negotiate this week. now, voting is happening in person both at local union halls and at the gates of u.p.s. facilities and results will be announced june 16. a nationwide unless s.p.s. strid be the largest in history. the union represents more than half of u.s. total and global employee base which includes drivers and package sorters. millions rely on unit.p.s. on tr deliveries. and at the heart of the negotiations for the union is improved pay and benefits and better working conditions. including adding air conditioning in the panel trucks used for u.p.s. deliveries which the union says poses a health risk for drivers. the two sides have been negotiating since april and u.p.s. has said that they are committed to coming up with an agreement before that
