nbc 10's ted greenberg reports from the garden state's capital city. >> reporter: tonight investigators are trying to pinpoint exactly what touched off this devastating fire that quickly ravaged a block of houses. three days before thanksgiving, families in anguish. nine homes on weinberg place in trenton now in ruins. >> completely destroyed. my documents, my medical school diplomas, everything destroyed. >> everybody came out. >> reporter: people woke up their neighbors soon after the fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. >> it was like an explosion. i looked through my window. there was fire and smoke. >> you never see in your life. >> reporter: three people went to the hospital, including a firefighter with an injured leg. five of the houses collapsed. cars destroyed, siding melted on nearby homes. firefighters say winds were gusty, but their biggest challenge came from falling power lines. >> the fire from that time had headway, and there was no water being put on it because of the electricity causing a safety issue for the firefighters. >> reporter: neighboring houses had to be evacuate
