i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. >> dangerous cold can take a toll on your car. the big question is, when dwruyou get up in the morning and you hopefully heat it up to get off on the road, do you need to warm your car up? randy is live in new castle county to help us separate myth from reality here. >> reporter: it has become the routine. you wake up realize how cold it is. you hop in your car, start her up and it warms up for you. a lot of people think it helps your car run more smoothly. it turns out it is the smith from back in the days when cars needed to get it up and running. it is a myth. comesleaving it running in the cold could lead to theft. firestone says it could also strip oil from your pistons and waste gas. we caught up with a mechanic. he says he understands people want to sit in a warm seat and warp up their car. any mod erp car should be able to drive just fine about 10 seconds after emission. >> the om reason people let their cars run is because they want it to be warm inside. >> i come out and warm the car up and run right back in the house. >

i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. >>> now to our weather, and not a bad way to end the workweek. here is a live look right now at broad street. it is cold out there, but plenty of sunshine. a cool down as well at the beach, not really swimming weather. but warmer weather is on the way just in time for the weekend. >> glenn hurricane schwartz is tracking the rain. >> yeah, a blue sky today, the temperature didn't go up a whole lot. all of the way across our area. not a cloud to be found, but it is only 42 degrees and in many other parts of the area it is in the 30s. dover, delaware, atlantic city, 37, 36 in wildwood, atlantic city, the ocean is so cold that any wind off of that ocean will keep you chilly. here we are with the dry air, we have to go pretty far to the west before we find any kind of showers, it will be awhile before we find any rain out here. through the night tonight, the atmosphere is warming up, the wind is turning to the south, but the temperature will not drop very much, and it may be even warmer at 7:00 a.m. in some places then it will be at midnight tonight.
