two miles southeast of tehachapi. they are calling this the west fire because it started in the community of old west ranch. some 1200 acres have burned. what's burning here are vast tracks of ranch land. a lot of chaparral. a lot of old mine, tall pine and thick brush. as you said, the winds, a huge factor today. behind me you can probably see some of the wind mills here. this is a huge wind farm. there are probably some 5,000 wind turbines in this area. one of the largest in the world in terms of wind farms. so wind is something that they certainly deal with on a daily basis and not good news for firefighters. but again, zero% contained at this hour. we did see some aircraft in the air. and governor schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency for the area of kern county so they can bring a lot of assets to bear to fight this fire. >> bob, you mentioned the winds are strong and i notice you are wearing a jacket so i assume it's not really hot down there. and i'm wondering about the cause of the near. >> reporter
