maze heading towards the bay bridge. when i see a back up this bad it usually means a half hour wait getting to the toll plaza and metering lights which were turned on early. this is what you can expect if you have to drive. do consider ac transit you can get on one of the oakland stations the west oakland station is closed that's what we are hearing from bart as well. without transbay service you can get on the macarthur station, also san mateo bridge still fine as well as the richmond san rafael bridge and dumbarton bridge. >>> you talked about the subject of ac transit one of the primary alternate means of transportation this morning. katie marzullo is live in the breaking news center with more on the reaction from ac transit. >> reporter: good morning. the newsroom upstairs hustling to get as much information as we can to the commuters. we did talk with the spokesman for ac transit. he says they are using their buses the best they can to make up for the lack of bart. >> we have 26 lines that run across the bay bridge.

there's a new ferry service launching in the bay area this morning. >> commuters in the east bay and uth san francisco will all benefit. christie smith live in oakland for the perk for the first riders this week. good morning. >> good morning to you, laura. this is the first ferry service in the bay area since 1992, and more of a step forward toward creating a network of ferry services throughout the bay area. this one running between alameda and oakland square. another alternative to riding b.a.r.t., muni, caltrain, or driving across the bay bridge. rides to and from alameda are expected to take about 50 minutes. about 40 minutes each morning. now the ferry service, the terminal in south san francisco cost about $26 million to build and some major employers over there will offer shuttles. in fact, nine companies will offer shuttles for riders who get off there. there are three morning departures from the east bay and two return trips back to the east bay in the evening. one-way trip will cost you about $7. they take cash, credit, or clipper cards all okay. first boat leaves alameda a
