you have to think about okay, in the bay area, it actually costs this much. so what are we seeing a lot of those parents spend most of the money on when it comes to raising the child? >> yeah, three major categories, housing, food and child care are the big ones. housing is just expensive. we have to put a roof over our kids' heads and over time, those costs are increasing. they're increasing more today than ever. personally, i just looked up food, for example, snacks and baby food, two things that are on my mind because i have a 7-month-old daughter and a 3-year-old daughter, those are up 16% over the 12-month period. we're seeing drastic increases in food costs and child care. this is the big topic, at least every birthday party i go to for my kids, what are we paying for child care? i just did my personal numbers here, and just one year increase in child care is up about 11% in the 12-month period. we're seeing major increases and that's the thing. what we're seeing is major increases in child-specific items that are increasing much faster than the broad ba

in the past, and it most likely will be a bay in the future. tam: we picked this part of the shoreline for a study around design concepts for future sea level rise because it's the lowest lying area on the eastern waterfront. it's the place that's going to flood first, and so we thought it was the right place to spark a conversation around what are design alternatives or choices that we can make in the future at the mouth of mission creek near at&t park. we'll have a really beautiful public space that people might not even realize is designed for flood protection. ideally, we would have wetland habitat and parks and a place where people can access the bay. we want to have a lot of commercial activity in our city. we want more housing. we definitely need more affordable housing to solve some of the bay area's biggest challenges, but alongside that, we have to do something about future sea level rise. ideally, we'll have a lot of people enjoying the waterfront, and during storm events, we'll have some kind of way of protecting people through some

area, most of the the bay area here in severe drought conditions, that's the third worst category, to the east of the central valley is where we find extreme or exceptional drought, the worst categories, statewide the situation has not changed compared to last week's update, 17% of the state in exceptional drought, 43% in extreme drought and almost the entire state, all all but 2% in severe drought, the extreme drought number is the second worst category in red, that's better than it was to begin the summer because it's it's been an active monsoon season through the sierra and especially over southern california, the area in red has shrunk and the area within has been expanding a little bit. it's useful to look back or we can look back at what the drought situation was across the the bay area a few months ago, six months ago or a year ago and and you can compare a year ago to what the drought map looks like right now and for the bay area it's a much better picture, picture, all of us were in extreme to exceptional drought conditions 12 months ago, the rain we received in october a

, the east bay, and the santa clara valley. still yellow dots scattered in as you look farther farther inland but we have seen an improvement. as the winds calm down by owner tomorrow morning, some of the particulates in the atmosphere will settle down to ground level level so we will be back into the yellow category for inland parts of the east bay, santa clara valley, but i don't think it'll be worse than that tomorrow, and their quality should continue to improve as we we head into the weekend, it should be green across the board board throughout the weekend. looking outside toward downtown, locally dense fog, localized over downtown, temperatures around the bay are in the 60s around 70 for san jose and santa santa rosa, still around 80 degrees inland in the east bay and on the warm side, future cast shows the fog spreading into the inland valleys but this this isn't a deep marine layer, fairly shallow which means it will dissipate quickly as the sun comes up on friday, the fog backing up to around the bay by 9:00, 10:00 at

green being you're at the speed limit all through out the bay and the peninsula. we talked about over here, niles, the overnight crews there. they typically clear at 5:00 a.m. sometimes we see the sensors light up about 5:01:30. over here looking at a typical pattern out of the altamont. no slowing, no delays, vasco from marsh creek to 580, 16 or 17 minutes for that drive. as you drive through highway 4, no delays at the bay business and the slowing i saw at the richmond business crossing has cleared. that's good news. a smooth flow across the bay. >>> we're starting out with a smooth morning across the bay area. hopefully that continues as well. we may see the clouds rolling in overhead as we get started in san jose. temperatures in the low 60s to start. it's mostly clear. we will see the clouds starting to move in by about 5:00 to 6:00 and also, as we go through the rest of today, it clears out and we do have some nice weather ahead. it's going to be very much like yesterday where we head up to 80 degrees. a short drive to the south and it's going to be much hot
