a few cooler readings in the north bay. temperatures will start off maybe in the lower 50s early in the day tomorrow and then we start to warm up, temperatures tomorrow reaching back up into the 90s inland in the east bay. everybody east of the oakland hills will climb into the 90s, 80s in the santa clara valley and north bay as well, 60s and 70s around the bay. these numbers within 5 degrees of average. the heat risk, which is the threat of overexertion, is moderate for the warmest locations over the next few days. the good news is even as temperatures heat up saturday, i don't think we'll see high risk values anytime soon. low to mid-90s and 80s for inland parts of the bay area, but triple digits are not likely on a widespread basis. at least we're starting off august without the crazy heat of early july. around the bay temperatures mostly running in the low to mid-70s, morning fog giving way to afternoon sunshine. along the coast temperatures don't change much, staying in the low 60s and low cloud cover and fog, a gray se

much of the east bay. we're going to see high, a high of 80 in hayward, 84 in martinez and 90 in walnut creek. but it's going to be in the low 90s in just a few spots near the coast. we're dropping those temperatures even more so half moon bay. we'll see the temperature up to 68 degrees 72 in san mateo and in palo alto, 82 degrees low 70s in the mission district and in the marina district, 68 degrees today, novato, 85 and 99, in ukiah. when we compare that to what we're seeing elsewhere, i know you may be packing a bag and heading somewhere. we've had some extreme heat across parts of the south, and when you add in the humidity. well, the heat index has been an issue over 100 degrees across much of the south. but we do see that cold front that will be making its way farther off towards the east, dropping those temperatures here. we do have a slight cooldown in our forecast, and in gilroy we're going to see upper 80s, but then a nice mild weekend and then look at next week. it's going to be hot once again wi

fire in the east bay. rted around 3 a.m. on west buchanan road at the woodland hills apartment building in pittsburg. you can see the flames right there. they ripped through the apartments. witnesses say some residents had to jump out of the building to escape. people inside said they smelled smoke and had to find a way out. it took a minute to come to, and then i smelled the smoke. and then i saw the flames. we started kicking, banging on the doors, trying to wake everyone up. scary moments there. firefighters are still on scene this morning mopping up the area. no word on how the fire started. and it's back to school for one major bay area school district. tomorrow is the first day for san francisco unified school district. the united educators of san francisco will welcome families and distribute breakfast to malcolm x academy students and families. this comes as the district is on track to close several schools. it says the decision came because of low student count. right now, san francisco serves near

all across into the east bay. ds and that slightly cooler day tomorrow as that humidity lifts on out. and that extra cloud cover. but still the risk of thunderstorms from extreme northeastern california through the sierra nevada throughout the day today, but getting less and less as we go through the afternoon. the chance that is 89 today in san jose, that's about six degrees warmer than yesterday, minus the humidity. it's going to feel hot out there. 94 in los gatos, 85 in milpitas on the peninsula, we are up to about 80 today. and in palo alto, at least six degrees warmer in redwood city, you get the afternoon sea breeze and you'll be in the low 70s south city up in the north bay. it's a hot one here with 99. in cloverdale, lakeport near that. and then as we get towards sonoma, temperatures in the mid 90s. so very warm on the bay shore here. we're 81 san leandro. so back to the low to mid 80s from union city and castro valley and inland. it is a scorcher where we'll see 100 in pittsburg. but mid 90s pleasanton sa

much of the north bay. seeing those highs today in the mid to upper seconds, we'll be tracking a slight warm up for the valleys. more on that coming up in a few minutes. mike now has a look at gas prices. yeah, other parts of the state are doing much better than we are california. we're holding steady. some are going up a little bit, but we're going to focus on the school starts for like santa clara unified today, where platinum gas on washington has santa clara's best back to school price at 381. livermore valley sees school starting. so we highlight 397 at dimond gas and mart in the middle here. that's the one on south front road and in the north bay. benicia schools start with the best local price of 489 at chevron on solano square. you can report those whether or not you're returning to school. you look at gasbuddy.com because you can school us on those prices. getting out to the roadways. it's a smooth, easy drive for most of the bay, but that crash we saw pop up on south 242 now sees a lot of slowing.

so notice around the bay here into the east bay. is sunny up in the north bay, the peninsula and parts of sonoma or actually around napa, looking at the clouds holding on, but everyone getting set for a warm and sunny afternoon. if you're a little bit further inland, there's a look from vollmer peak there, and you'll notice that we are brightening up. 55 san francisco 62. in oakland it is 65. in the south bay with redwood city, about 60. look at the compressed marine layers. hig pressure pushes down the weight of the atmosphere on our deck of low clouds. it gets pushed to the surface. we are sunny. fairfield, concord, livermore in the mid 60s. santa rosa is at 60 in the clouds, 56 in napa. so air quality advisory a lot like yesterday. a little bit of haze in the afternoon, moderate air quality from the east bay and the south bay. we do have that onshore flow, but so many fires to the north, kind of allowing for some of that smoke the to be wrapped up in that flow. and so that's why we'll have more haze today, mist and drizzle at the

for much of the east bay, we're up to 86 today in hayward, 83 in oakland, but much of the north bay will be in the low 90s. santa rosa today, 93 degrees. we're up to 99 in ukiah today and in san francisco, we're going to see a high of 77 as we take it into the day tomorrow. only slightly cooler there near the coast. and some of our temperatures coming down a degree or two, like san jose, will be up to 88 degrees with a high of 95 in livermore. but we're still in the 90s for a lot of the interior valleys. we will make progress towards some cooler temperatures, but it's still pretty warm on thursday. it's not until friday into the weekend when we start to see a low developing off the coast. that's going to reinforce that sea breeze and bring in some cooler temperatures, even to the inland valleys. a look at livermore. we're going from upper 90s to low 80s for sunday. looks really great for labor day holiday weekend, but then heating up again for the middle of next week. we will have to deal with this high heat for a few more days, but once again, the weekend is looking spectacular with low

the south bay. a car struck a man around nine last night. this is near automation parkway and hostetter road. police have now reopened all of the westbound lanes of hostetter road and the driver is cooperating with investigators. firefighters are still trying to determine what caused an early morning fire that heavily damaged an empty building in oakland. the first calls went out a little after 1 a.m. the oakland fire department posted this video from dennison and cotton streets near interstate 880. this is the same building where a buttercup cafe recently shut down. firefighters say no one was injured. well, police in oakland are investigating a shooting that left one person dead near the parker community resource center. it happened last night around seven on naeher avenue. now, officers say multiple people arrived at local hospitals on their own. no word this morning on their conditions in response to crime crisis in the city. oakland mayor sheng thao will host a town hall tonight to let resident

of the battle of the bay game. there were still some winners today at oracle. the 2024 san francisco giants race was held today. lucille leading the charge. i don't think lucille ran it, though. it was filling the streets for blocks and blocks. here's a look at the start of the race. runners and walkers could choose between a5k, a ten k, or, for the first time in the race's history, a half marathon. and the route went along san francisco's iconic waterfront before crossing the finish line on the field at oracle. it was really nice to be out there. the course is super flat and fast and just along the embarcadero and in the marina, and there were people out cheering, which was really cool. didn't really expect that. but there were definitely some fans and some people who were just out on their morning jog in the marina who were giving us some support, which was really cool. and it is really cool to be on the field at oracle. stand there and look up at the stands like the players do anyway, in the women's category. for

we'll see some upper 80s there in the east bay, as well as the similar trend down here in the south bay. 86 in cupertino, mid 80s downtown san jose to those upper 80s in gilroy. as we go on into 89 degrees, we continue that trend. our microclimates will be pretty similar in the east bay. some 80s for oakland and down into fremont, upper 80s walnut creek to some low 90s in antioch. over on into the peninsula. it will be some gorgeous beach weather today in half moon bay, 68 degrees to 76, in san mateo. low 80s for palo alto, the city. look at all of this in the 70s on the board from the marina to the mission 76 to the upper 60s in the outer sunset. we continue with that warm weather. it's a gorgeous day up in wine country. it will do some upper 80s for napa to santa rosa and ukiah coming in at 89 degrees. drink lots of water and enjoy that beautiful beach day out in point reyes. i've got you at 72 for today. we're going to just bump up those numbers though, as we go on into our workweek. kids are back in school. you might be working outdoors as we transition into the fall months, so we r

whereas down in the south bay we'll see mainly upper 70s. en day forecast. and as you can see tomorrow will be another cooler than average day but warmer than today with mid 80s inland mid 70s around the bay shoreline. then the warming begins on monday. monday and tuesday. as a matter of fact, we'll see high temperatures inland going from 90 to about 94 degrees. and that two day period mid to upper 70s around the bay shoreline monday and tuesday. but notice the cooldown follows or starts to it begins, i should say on wednesday. and look at how cool it's going to be going into the end of next week. temperatures will be about 8 to 12 degrees below average for this time of the year, and our inland areas only up to about 84, where we often see 9496 degrees inland this time of the year. and around the bay shoreline, we'll see only about 70 degrees. so it will be cool again late next week, but probably not quite so misty as this morning was. >> i got a text from a friend in tiburon. she said, what is going on? it is raining here. and i said, what i

it is really sticking around in san francisco and the south bay communities well the rest of the bay is waking up to a pretty quiet and clear start to the morning. as we take a look at this monitor over here we can see a little bit of that fog as we step out. a really cool time-lapse. one of my favorite things to do is to show you the time lapses around san francisco. the tower was basically shrouded by fog about 35 minutes ago. then the sun rose and you can see the fog clearing and a quiet and calm start to the morning. the fog is still sticking around in places like the marin headlands and the golden gate, but it is a really holding tight to the coast. temperatures, nothing too crazy, 50s across the bay area, 60 in san jose and santa rosa waking up in the upper 40s. the jacket will be necessary for the first day of school. if you do want to head out to the white sox versus giants game, it will be great, clear skies and quiet conditions sticking around throughout the afternoon. we also will be noticing a little more of that activity. if we take a further look out over the next coupl

a little bit of cloud cover left near the bay. and then for the afternoon we get into that sunshine. morning temperatures. as we started off going to be in the 50s across the bay area so as you get the kids back off to school again tomorrow, as we kind of all get back into our routines here, we'll start it off with lots of 50s. 57 in the peninsula, south bay at 59, and you're coming in with some 50s east bay, san francisco and the north bay afternoon highs. not too bad. again, look at this. 87 in los gatos, 85 cupertino. we get into a little bit of warmth there for morgan hill at 89 out here towards some of the warmest inland valleys. concord 90, antioch 92 hayward right there at 78. and really some of the best weather has been right here through the peninsula. 77, san mateo, 82, in palo alto, up to san francisco. how about 270 in the mission and you head towards the marina. that chilly breeze will have us at 64. and for the north bay, 88 in napa, 90 in clear lake and 89 in novato. okay, if you're traveling maybe out to the islands

so moderate air quality today for the coast, the central bay, the inland east bay and the south bay gets better as we get through your sunday. but notice that light color there indicates the smoke out there and obviously the concentrations up towards the park fire into the sierra nevada. and for the bay area, just a little bit of haze out there. the sea breeze kicks up for your sunday improving that. there's a look at the day today where we get into mostly sunny skies, and then a quick return of the low cloud deck across the east bay. you can notice that the clouds are hugging the peninsula. the north bay there, and then you'll notice the push inland through tomorrow morning, a little bit of mist and drizzle and you'll notice more high clouds throughout the afternoon. but that sea breeze will kick up to about 30 miles an hour, bringing temperatures anywhere from a few degrees to about ten degrees down into your sunday afternoon inland. just a modest cooldown. elsewhere across the bay. this is today, though. saturday 94, in concord, 93, in livermore. looking at those mid 70s around the ba
