i think that's in the peak of the rain will come through the bay area with that. we're talking maybe another 6 inches of rain just from that storm alone coming to the bexar over local mountain tops. so we're watching, especially the north bay, right? think that storms in get hung up initially and then spreading the south overnight into saturday morning. right now you can see the doppler radar. we're seeing some of the showers moving through the bay area. some snow to the north county history now. so levels running at about 4,000 feet, barely low. but we get to this next storm system. we're talking about 7, maybe 8,000 feet as the warmer weather is going to move in from that atmospheric river event. but you can see widespread light rain around the bay area now and expecting more to come. you see right here. let's time it out for you. this system coming through right now. that's what we call a warm front sliding on by. that will move in by to keep us wet tonight. probably the tail off after midnight tomorrow. doesn't look like a washout. you're going to see some scat

already looking wet behind you in san rafael. >> the flood watches are in effect in the north bay and the rest of the bay area, that's going to get started at 10:00 tonight. with the saturated ground and another 3 to 5 inches of rain coming down some of those coastal mountains, runoff flooding likely. and look at the last 24 hours, we had a steady soaking rain for parts of the east bay. close to an inch of rain. mount tam, more than 3 inches of rain with heavierer rain due in later tonight. north bay, seeing a few scattered showers. not as much in san jose. but those rain showers continue up along the range. notice the trend here. from midnight tonight to sunrise tomorrow, the top rain totals moving out of the north bay, down into the south bay, by 7:00 a.m. flood watches at 10:00 tonight, that's going to last for 24 hours, all the way through 10:00 sunday. it's going to take time for the water levels to come down and also just issued this afternoon is a wind advisory for the bay area, just getting started just after midnight. we could get wind gusts of 35 to 50 miles per hour. and trees are coming down and p

the rain should begin to huddle around the bay area, especially to the north. let's go out on our future cast. it does suggest that monday night here comes area of low pressure, the frontal band descends on the bay area now keep in mind. this system has more warm area associated with it, then cold air, so if you're banking on snow and tahoe, it looks more like rain. by tuesday there snow in the highest of all elevations . you'll get your snowfall on new year's eve. but until then, there's your tuesday morning commute. it's going to be sloppy . we get a bit of a break by tuesday night and wednesday morning's commute and by wednesday night. here comes the rain through your thursday and look what's behind it. more precipitation for thursday night into your friday. in fact, it appears it's going to see rainfall total up all the way through new year's day, we could see four inches of rain in santa rosa little over that, by saturday, these totals would change day to day. but for the most part that's pretty healthy. as far as the numbers are concerned tonight, overnig

we've got pockets of moderate rain over areas of nevada stretching over towards the napa at this time as we shift into areas near the central bay, san francisco down along the peninsula, we've got some rain there between san francisco san mateo and then off to the east bay. we've got some good good amount of rain falling over areas like oakland stretching over towards highway 24 over our hills and along 6 80 towards a walnut creek san ramon as we shift south of santa cruz mountains, getting some rain already. ready and into the mountains of the sierra, where we have mostly rain and very high elevation snow. let's talk briefly about the advisories that are in place when a storm warning will expire at four am, this is just been extended that will actually start on tuesday now and go into wednesday with more storms coming our way, but this is the one i want to talk about. we do have a winter weather advisory that will be in place until tomorrow. sunday morning at four am it begins tomorrow morning at 10. 10 a.m. a lot to talk about. here is a look at the flood watch for the entire bay area started just a few moments ago will go un

very soggy around the bay area. see the radar picking up on all the rain outside around the state in the bay area. the showers continue most. that's just some light activity. might see some moderate showers briefly. but that will taper off over after midnight. but as we head in the next couple days, that's when we get ready for a major event, an atmospheric river event. that's a good old pineapple express, bringing that rainfall in starting tomorrow morning. i think we dry things out a little bit late afternoon. things begin to pick up and then getting heavy overnight friday night and into saturday morning. that's when all that rain comes pouring into the bay area. then it looks like it will break off as we head in toward new year's eve in new year's day. probably going to be the only real dry day in the next 7, maybe 10 days. another fast-moving storm moves in on monday. then very large storm moves in late on tuesday into wednesday, all told we've got just a series of storms rolling in toward the bay area. here's yo

it's raining all across the bay area. >> the national weather service has issued a flood watch for the bay area. we want to have more on all that's happening in the weather right now with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. he's standing by in our weather center. what a wet night. yeah, certainly is. we've had a series of storms come through the bay area now. >> we're kind of primed for the possibility of some flooding. the atmosphere is brought all kinds of rain through the bay area that have really saturated the soils. and now we've got another storm system moving in tonight. this one, not a big one that just bring a light rain around much of the bay area of sea. pretty slick out there right now. but flood watches have been posted now across the entire bay area, expecting most of the major rivers to stay within their banks. but we could see the smaller tributaries, especially overnight friday night and saturday morning. i think through about noon time. i think that's what we see some flooding. that's what it's going to take place. got to watch out for some mudslides and debris f

it is the same across the bay area. bridges on the top of your screen. conditions at the golden gate and bay bridges. the bottom showing you conditions out on the san mateo bridge and richmond, sandra fell a very slick and wet conditions out doors and that wet weather expected to get a bit more severe over the next few hours as rain continues to fall. as for public transportation, bart is reporting up to 10 minute delays systemwide because of the wet weather. so please keep that in mind. if you are planning to head out the door, there are several traffic problems you want to be aware of of. this is a map from caltrans. now you're getting a perspective of that here showing all the incidents that they are seeing right now. there are a number of weather-related problems. caltrans is reporting on highway 92. let's zoom in there. you can see highway 92 is closed between main street and skyline boulevard because of flooding. this is in the westbound direction. there is also a mudslide. caltrans is reporting in the area of 92 and west hillsdale. also, we're foll

that's when a much stronger storm system is going to roll through the bay area. i was looking at some of the hydrological forecast on some of the main rivers around the bay area right now, the forecast is for all of them. the russian rivers to stay within their banks. but if something changes in that forecast for that storm system get hung up. that could change everything. and we're going to watch it very closely with the each successive storm that comes through with the ground so saturated, the potential for more flooding is a real possibility. likely could see some smaller tributaries and streams have some issues with some flooding. as we head into early on saturday morning watching out for that, the possibility of some flash flooding and some mudslides become a much more of a real possibility, especially saturday morning and looks like more storms on the way next week. right now you see a couple scattered showers. momt touches, some light precipitation out there right now. not much. but there's more on the way you see here. this first system coming through brin

>> from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> now at 6, we begin with the deadly 6.4 magnitude earthquake that hit in humboldt county this morning. 2 people have died. many other people were injured in the quake. and tonight, many others are without power and without running water. good evening, everybody. i'm pam moore. i'm ken wayne. it's been a very long day for humboldt county residents after almost 100 aftershocks. >> and dealing with the damage has been left behind by the earthquake. the quake struck just after 2.30, this morning about 7 miles off the coast of northern california. that's more than 200 miles north of san francisco. cal office of emergency services says most of the effects from the quake was felt in the towns of ferndale for tuna and rio down just south of eureka. but people did feel it even here in the bay area. and as far south as los gatos, ana and san jose, the humboldt county sheriff's office confirms that 2 people have, in fact, died as a result of the quake. a 72 ye

but it's been moderate pockets of rain fall around the bay area. occasionally you see some moderate downpours. but overall it has been fairly a light storm has moved on by still. you're seeing some of that rain moving into parts of the east bay now continue to see showers in a play. also into oakland and stretching, know on your way towards san ramon in dublin, further south, we're seeing more scattered showers in toward milpitas. a san jose. maybe a couple light showers coming your way. and then along the coastline and put this live are seeing a few more scattered showers. but i think this is all going to wind down as we head toward the midnight tonight and then the starts to move out of town. so this year that also been seeing some snow out of that. that's some good news. and then behind that, they're going to get a little bit of a break. so if you've got some plans on friday, looks like an okay to get out do is we'll stay dry. you'll see a lot of clouds specially on the increase late in the day. and then as we get into saturday night saturday mor

the bay bridge. the showers have mostly moved off into the east bay. now they've moved through the whole bay areahe last two hours, three hours or so that lingering showers and now they're mostly out towards, uh, fairfield. vacaville there's some stuff down towards monterey and big sur. you can see that down in the ben lomond area up north here, we've got a little bit of activity of heavier rainfall activity up around fairfield. those yellows, representing about a half inch an hour rainfall rates, which are significant a little further south. you can see the shift in the bands as they move off towards fremont. so this is the tail end of this system. as it moves out a lot of cold there. it's dropping snow right now. it's probably snowing on hamilton's right now. it's probably snowing on diablo right now, as this system clears out with this cold, unstable air, it's gone by about three or four in the morning, and after that, we start to dry out. but stay cool. here are the forecast model. it shows us that one o'clock tonight you can see that system sort of working its way out. there's four a.m. and

and then for the bay area. what we've got is just the consistently wet conditions with rain falling all across the bay area making for this morning with pond and standing water on roadways. ground is already saturated. >> this moisture plume the atmospheric river. you can see that cloud cover stretching well offshore, just bull's eye right across the bay area as it has been throughout the course of the night. this just pushes that moisture laden air right across the certain spot and that indeed has been the bay area. we are looking at the peninsula as well as the east bay looking at some of those showers consistently making their way on inland. this is really complicating things out there as you are getting outside. so do take it slow are starting to see that moisture pushing further and further southward and it will continue to do so gradually throughout the course of the morning pockets of rain will continue over the next several hours. and we will see potential for rain all the way up to around noon. it will
