people head on into the city from the north bay to watch those fireworks, so things could get a little busier later. and let's take you over to the east bay and the bay bridge toll plaza. that is also a good looking scene. i've taken a look at the roads all across the bay area, and everything looks to be smooth sailing right now, so just be safe if you are headed out on the roadways this evening to celebrate and welcome in 2025. well, new. at 730, a firefighter was injured fighting a house fire in alameda county. officials say that fire broke out around 8:00 last night in the unincorporated cherryland neighborhood, near hayward. the firefighter's injuries were not life threatening. fire crews say two elderly residents we displaced from the townhouse on nset boulevard near oakland avenue. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. well, local food bank is asking for help to meet its giving goals so those in need won't face food insecurity. the food bank of contra costa and solano serves tens of thousands of families, and they have set a holiday challenge of raising enough money for 3 million meals. right now, they say there are about $500,000 short

, for example, the bay bridge and the golden gate bridge, both included in that. now, throughout the next couple of hours, we'll watch that fog slowly become a little bit more patchy or a little bit more dissipated, and then into the overnight hours tonight, early morning hours tomorrow. it's clear as can be. and there's a reason for that. as we take a look at wind conditions. it's been nice and light for us this morning. really not disturbing that surface level at all. but once we head into the overnight hours tonight, we're starting to see a stronger wind event come. and that moves from the north all the way offshore. we could see wind gusts tomorrow anywhere up to around 30 to 40mph at times from napa over into fairfield, san francisco. seeing some breezy conditions as well. now taking a look in the afternoon hours tomorrow. there's not really a break in the system just yet, and all the way into the overnight hours tomorrow night, it still stays breezy until around wednesday. so with that in mind, let's take a quick look at w

drivers crossing the bay bridge here behind me or any of the bay area's seven state owned bridges, can expect to pay $8 per toll. now, this voter approved toll increase is the third in a series of three, with the last increase happening three years ago. the bay area toll authority says money from this increase will go towards freeway improvements across the area and the purchase of new bart cars, not to mention an extension of the bart system, the caltrain corridor, muni's transit vehicle fleet, and the san francisco bay. service bay ferry service, just to name a few. it is important to note this increase is separate from the toll hike just approved by the toll authority last month that will ultimately see the price to cross a bridge hit 1050 by the year 2030. commuters we talked to worry about the financial impact it will have on people who rely on crossing the bridges to work or to see family. >> i don't think that's the way to do it. you know, closing this, raising this, know, what are they doing with that money? because i don't see any type of improvements. >> the increase approved

now taking a live look at the bay bridge. the new year is bringing higher costs for commuters in the bay area. the totals for all 7 state-owned bridges is now one dollar more than this time last year. kron four's will tran reports from the bay bridge with the latest prices. >> it's now the law, $8 at the stroke of midnight before that at 11, 59, it was $7. $8 will be the new law of the land, at least for one year as voters actually approved that this back in 2018. yet started 3 ways of toll increases. one in 2021. 22 23. and then now 2025 each year. one dollar culminating now at $8. the money, according to the metropolitan transportation commission is being used or was being used as they are still collecting the money. of course, for transportation projects all over the bay area, including works on the bridge. this takes effect at all state bridges except the golden gate bridge. that is a privately-owned bridge. but the sad part is if you are commuting across the bridges, this is only going to last one year as it will continue

the dumbarton bridge. speaking of facebook campus, that looks pretty good as you drive over to the menlo park area, let's talk about improvement at the baybridge. that's improving quite a bit. in fact, we don't have a big backup there at all. there is some slowing on the bridge itself. 818 it's windy today. here's steve. >> that is correct, sal. it's clear it's also windy. we do have a wind advisory out that takes us to tomorrow at 10:00. not just today, but all through today, tonight into tomorrow. although some of the stronger gusts were about 2 or 3 hours ago. but still, that goes until 10 a.m. tomorrow. and that includes even down towards santa cruz and the sierra, where their wind speeds have really been cranked up over some of the higher passes there in the mountains, over 100 miles an hour. 33 now at oakland airport north gusting to 33. santa rosa 28 fairfield come down. they were 35 earlier. concord was about 28. i know half moon bay has had gusts over 30mph. a lot of 50s on the temps 5758 napa 58 fairfield 58 degrees. so plenty of 50s on the temps and we are running noticeably warmer than 24 hours ago, anywhere from what, 4 to 1

so right now things are very calm across the bay bridge. we will have the metering lights on, but things yesterday were much les significant as far as the backups go than monday and tuesday. we are just now in the last two minutes seeing slowing, just a brake taps off of merritt island. so typical pattern showing up for 37. we'll expect these sensors to show some yellow right there into baypoint and pittsburgh in the next few minutes. no drama at the bay bridge. good stuff. vasco road at speed. look at this. the altamont pass looks a little lighter as far as the slowing goes. must be lighter. volume of traffic. if we time it out, we have a great drive right here in the middle. that's 18 minutes. just up another minute over the last few. so there's a volume that's starting to build out of contra costa county grantline road. it was at 22 minutes but looks like the volume starting to build. so a little bit later start coming off of our farther commutes right now. back to you. thank you mike. well next here on today in the bay, a new chapter for

[applause] now you can hear the crackling from a new wildfire. it popped up last night near a golf course along the santa clara river in ventura county. it's called the auto fire. it's only burned about 56 acres. it's now 0% contained. firefighters are trying to keep that fire from spreading. the evacuation orders and closed roads were ordered. now, that region, as you know, is under a red flag warning that will last through wednesday. we expect another news briefing on everything later this morning. so far, at least 24 people have died in the fires. the palisades, eden and hurst fires have combined to burn 60mi!s. that's an area bigger than paris, france. first, the first fire

the bay area. the tolls for all 7 state-owned bridges. now one dollar more than last year, congress. ne of the bay bridge. i guess we'll we are paying a little extra to get to work today. good morning. >> it's now the law, $8 at the stroke of midnight before that at 11, 59, it was $7. $8 will be the new law of the land, at least for one year as voters actually approved that this back in 2018. yet started 3 ways of toll increases. one in 2021. 22 23. and then now 2025 each year. one dollar culminating now at $8. the money, according to the metropolitan transportation commission, is being used or was being used as they are still collecting the money. of course, for transportation projects all over the bay area, including works on the bridge. this takes effect at all state ridges except the golden gate bridge. that is a privately-owned bridge. but the sad part is if you are commuting across the bridges, this is only going to last one year as it will continue to go out. take a look at your screen. these are the new prices starting next year as ntc, we actually approved of this last month.

this is where we're sitting at the bay bridge right now. it has calmed down for us. s compare our winds here locally in the bay with what we've seen in southern california. we'll start with the sierra which is seen extraordinary lee, windy conditions over 100 mile per hour gusts nearby. the eaton fire detections of around 93 mile per hour gusts. that's the fire that's burning just above altadena and pasadena nearby. the palisades fire. the one that's burning around pacific palisades 76 mile per hour peak wind gusts near by the her spy around 66 miles per hour. now, compare that with the oakland hills, which obviously has been extraordinarily windy, too, with around a 54 mile per hour wind gusts. so our winds back here at home in problematic. but they've also been paired with a lot of moisture. we've seen that recent rainfall. that is not something southern california scene and that paired with these extraordinary wind gusts is just making for this very hard situation. here are those high wind warnings and advisories for southern california. you can see them just reall

we do have a backup at the bay bridge. part of this is because of an earlier crash on the bridge that was no injuries. they cleared it out rather quickly, but there was a little bit of a backup associated with that. it's not much. this is a look at 880 south. there's a five mile backup approaching auto mall as an injury accident is blocking a lot of lanes. it's a sigalert. traffic is backed up from thornton, and that's a five mile backup westbound 580. a lot of slow traffic from before the patterson pass into tracy, all because of an earlier car fire at the north. flynn exit, 710. let's go back to the desk. all right. >> thank you. we have some breaking news coming in right now to the ktvu newsroom. there was an earthquake. it hit off the coast of san francisco, and we have live pictures right off the coast. this is where it happened. it was a magnitude 3.7 quake. it hit just about at 7:00 this morning. we've been getting a lot of calls into the ktvu newsroom from people watching mornings on two, and they felt that quake. i

light rain starting in the north bay. >> spreading across the entire bay area. this image of the golden gate bridge. quite interesting. you can see on the far edge of your screen, their leaves blowing in the wind. very light breeze going on. you look up in the sky. you see blue skies and some high thin ice crystal clouds. so this series clouds look to the far right of your screen and there is the flag at half-mast in honor of president jimmy carter. so we've got a lot going on in that precipitation outlook of, yes, we're going to see some rain tomorrow, but it will be dry, drier than normal for the next number of days, all the way through january. 11th, at least certainly through mid-january. i think we have dry conditions with the one exception. yes, clear today, dry today, increasing clouds and then you get that rain starting overnight. first in the north bay was raindrops fall and then a front moves across the entire bay area. and we see widespread rainfall, light rain but still rain nevertheless, and as much as half an inch in santa rosa and a lot less most other spots of a dry weather returns
