the bridge carries beltway traffic across suitland parkway. engineers say that it is structure structurally sound, however yesterday a chunk of concrete fell off on to a car below. you can see the damage that was done. that driver traveling eastbound on the suitland parkway. as they went underneath the overpass concrete came falling down on top of their car. you can see little pieces of concrete on the roof of the vehicle, as well as the trunk p.driver was not hurt but the damage done to the vehicle and certainly a disturbing situation. all lanes are open this morning both on the suitland parkway as well as on that bridge on the beltway. but we are expecting engineers to be out here later on this morning. they will take another look, make sure that there are no other loose pieces of concrete and make sure that everything is okay. but they do say that the bridge itself is structurally sound. they will just be taking some added precautions later on this morning. so we are expecting to see that activity. back to you. >>> megan, thank you. it's not

and the onramp and offramp to the beltway seem to be the biggest problem. the beltway itself is almost down to black pavement. 270 northbound that's down to completely black pavement almost. river road is crispy. here is the off ramp. these are about four to five inch deep ruts of snow. you have to stay inside the tire tracks. and as you saw from the video from little nissan four-wheel drive. and four-wheel drive doesn't do you any good if you don't take your foot off the gas. we have taken a measurement. 3 1/2 inches of snow. so far today you can see we measured up to here on the snow stick. the one we measured against is all the way up here. february 1979. that was the president's day storm 1979. 18.7 inches of snow with that particular storm. if you think it's cold now, following that 19 $7979 dulles airport dropped to 14 below zero. >> i could not even describe how miserable i would be. fortunately for you you have a nice warm fire there. thank you. we'll check with you a little bit later. >>> 6:06 right now. if you live in d.c. and your car is parked a

delia goncalves is live on kenilworth avenue at the beltway with the latest. how are things looking now, delia? >> reporter: they certainly made some progress. here we are more than ten hours out after this incident on 201 and the road is still shut down to traffic. let's take a look a little closer at the scene. crews are here on the scene. they are working to eventually replace that traffic light which i'm told stands about 14 to 17 feet high. that traffic light was torn down today by a plow truck. >> it happened at least once a week. >> reporter: but it sure was a first for me. just after 2:00 a.m., a blue truck tore down this traffic light on 201 in greenbelt right at the beltway. >> that's what happened on 495 when the plow truck had its back bed up and hit the sign. >> with all the damage he's done on this he hit it pretty hard. >> reporter: engineers tried to salvage what they could. as they were making progress, so were highway crews. plow trucks doing a good job clearing the snow. mother nature adding sunlight to melt some more. we helped out this hom

four to eight inches, the biggest system so far this year in the beltway and the points south, including all of southern maryland. including the 66 corridor and the city of fredericksburg, culpeper, manassas, and orange. two to four inches in leesburg, gaithersburg, frederick and in the city of hagerstown, the two to four inches for the panhandle of maryland and west virginia as well. overnight tonight, it will be very cold, zero to ten, mostly clear to partly cloudy with the winds out of the northwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour and gusting higher than that. the temperatures will still be in the single digits and teens on monday morning. then in the afternoon we might see a quick snow shower before sunset, but for the most part that snow is going to off until after sunset. tomorrow's high temperature only 25 degrees with that snow arriving late. and then a morning snow shower is still lingering on tuesday. most of this accumulation, it is during the overnight hours as i mentioned, bruce, several inches of snow in our forecast. >> four to eight on tuesday? >> four to eight on monday night
