ÑÑÑÑ >> the commerce department authorized the transfer of approximately $10 million to maintainobust call center for as long as necessary. on june 11, the initial transfer of $3 million was made. that permitted the call center to step 4000 agents during the week of june 12. the call center received approximately 17,000 calls, since june 12, over 1 million calls. calls have declined precipitously. during the week following the transition, the help line averaged 43,000 calls per day. the week of june 22, we averaged 21,000 calls per day. we're also trending downward. the call center is open between 8:00 a.m. and midnight. we have dedicated about 40 agents to serve on a team to answer calls in specific markets where we are ironing out remaining issues. the percentage of consumers to require -- to inquire about reception loss has been steadily decreasing. the number was 31%, it is now less than 20%. a lot of the calls involve coupon requests. those coupons should be issued shortly. despite the high volume of coupon requests around june 12, they can adhere to the nine business days f

one question on the commerce clause in the constitution.ou well know, is used to pass laws in a variety of contexts, from protecting schools from guns to highway safety to laws on violent crime, child pornography, laws to prevent discrimination and to protect the environment, to name just a few examples. when i questioned now chief justice roberts, i talked about how for 60 years the court did not strike down a single federal law for exceeding congressional power under the commerce clause. in the last decade, however, the court has changed its interpretation of the commerce clause and struck down more than three dozen cases. my question to the chief justice and now to you is -- do you agree with the direction the supreme court has moved in more narrowly interpreting congressional authority to enact laws under the commerce clause? general, not relating to any one case. >> it is -- no, i know. but the question assumes a prejudgment by me of what's an appropriate approach or not in a new case that may come before me as a second circuit judge o

the name u.s. chamber of commerce is confused with the department of commerce. i don't work for the government. we are a employer based private sector organization. with regard to our problems with public or public run or government run healthcare, the medicare program on its face has run well. it provides coverage to senior citizens and we are all going to be there one day. but the reality is it is running in a huge deficit that is well known and c.b.o. is concerned about it. and lots of medicare costs get offloaded to the private sector through cost shifting. doctors get under paid and shift the cost to the private sector as we pick up. so, the lessons of government run healthcare are not that s g sanguine when you dig down into it. so, there is talk about expanding medicare or medicare-like plans to cover individuals who are much younger than 65. and perhaps everyone. and giving them a choice to be in their employer's plan or to go into the public plan. if an employee has a choice, that employer can't very well calculate who is going to be in his or her plan or be in the public plan. the bil

would the blue dog comcoalition be doing on the energy and commerce committee suspect -- specifically? >> we have about two doesn't amendments to the bill. some of them are still being drafted. the text of the bill did not come out until tuesday. and in the manager's amendment which totally rowboat the bill and added 200 pages to it. that just came out -- on thursday. our staff has been working around the clock and well into the evening trying to figure out some of these amendments. we're looking specifically at waste, fraud, and abuse in the medicare system. we're looking specifically at the things in medicare that are broken and need to be fixed. and then we have got to look at the chronic disease management. there is a company in south carolina that all of their employees at the same coverage. yet what they did, that had a group of diabetics voluntarily participate in a chronic disease management program for diabetics. and then they had another set that did not. that followed them over a short period of time, and your two. they all had the same health care coverage. one had a manag

ÑÑÑÑ >> the commerce department authorized the transfer of approximately $10 million to maintainobust call center for as long as necessary. on june 11, the initial transfer of $3 million was made. that permitted the call center to step 4000 agents during the week of june 12. the call center received approximately 17,000 calls, since june 12, over 1 million calls. calls have declined precipitously. during the week following the transition, the help line averaged 43,000 calls per day. the week of june 22, we averaged 21,000 calls per day. we're also trending downward. the call center is open between 8:00 a.m. and midnight. we have dedicated about 40 agents to serve on a team to answer calls in specific markets where we are ironing out remaining issues. the percentage of consumers to require -- to inquire about reception loss has been steadily decreasing. the number was 31%, it is now less than 20%. a lot of the calls involve coupon requests. those coupons should be issued shortly. despite the high volume of coupon requests around june 12, they can adhere to the nine business days f
