witnesses suspect vehicles have left the freeways. and then again, it was very difficult to pinpoint the timing of the fatal shots so that we could then backtrack on the freeway to start collecting the gun casings, which are so critical to solving these shootings. so with these integrated systems, allowing us to, um, literally within seconds, respond to these shootings and potentially even, um. identified suspect vehicles, perhaps with the shooter hanging out the window, um or from muzzle flashes coming in hours of darkness. then screenshots can be taken of that vehicle and sent down to lot enforcement of freeway adjacent so they can start looking for suspect vehicles. really within moments of the shootings. yeah when time is really of the essence. mary you mentioned that you do believe that other jurisdictions should be looking at this system. do you know what they were efforts to expand? and are you there and contra costa county talking with your counterparts, let's say here in alameda county or other bay area counties. actually um,

it could happen to any one of us driving on his on the freeway. now just minutes ago we heard from the chp about their investigation. no arrests have been made so far, but they did say there have been 76 freeway shootings in alameda county in the past year, mostly on 5 88 80. a chp captain mike lehman did ask for the public's help for tips. here's what he had to say. public safety is a top priority for the chp. um and, um, as we continue to investigate this matter, we call upon the public for assistance. um the for the sake of the family. if anybody has information regarding this incident, they're encouraged to call the chp golden gate division investigative tip line. that number is seven. oh, 7917. four fia 91. um and any information would be would include witnesses. this incident. um anybody who may have a dash cam or videos, video surveillance of the incident. yeah the boy's father is flying in from china this afternoon and he has not met his son in person yet because of covid and travel restrictions. there will be a candlelight vigil tonight at

let me fill in the history between 1991 when that freeway came down and 2016 when that r.f.p. went out. it wasn't an easy history. it long pre-dates the desire for affordable housing at this location. the original bill from the senator required all of these former freeway parcels to be disposed of for cash to pair for the embarcadero roadway structure. we overcame that. in 1996, the chinese chamber of commerce wrote a series of memoranda which i have unearthed that are remarkable in the vision for reuniting chinatown for the embarcadero freeway that led to improvements along the embarcadero and the one and only affordable housing project. remember mayor brown at that point. there were four parcels. 1-a ford ability housing, sevenral please, third class a hotel and the fourth the park down the street. were it not for pushing from the community. broadway would have been a police station and not affordable housing. this would have been a hotel and not affordable housing. i want to thank everybody who made that dream a reality. our newest city attorney david chu for carrying that a
