the gorilla in and out of view, but it looked like a stressed gorilla display. observers are quite right. they will drag anything to hand and to show their strength and assert their dominance. so this gorilla was suddenly presented with a small human in his enclosure that's never happened before. lots of shouting and screaming and i think he would be both fascinated by the arrival of a small human and at the same time, wanting to assert his dominance and dragging the child someone way of doing that. and when you are dragged by a gorilla, as i have been on a number of occasions in a forest, it doesn't hurt. in the moat, it probably didn't hurt and might be frightened for the child but had he done that over the rocky enclosure, which does have no soft substrate, that would be dangerous for the boy but then seemed to be interested in and concerned for this small child. especially when the child cried. >> i'd love to show people. you said you've been dragged before, i want to show people that you have shown us about your remarkable interactions in the wild. literally

harambe was 4-year-old boy managed to find his way into the gorilla exhibit. ng into the incident and the parents could face charges. but this wasn't the first bout of trouble at the zoo. in march someone left a door open to the polar bear exhibit. two bears walked out and were later shot with tranquilizer darts. jamie yuccas reports. >> reporter: cincinnati zoo officials say harambe was agitated and disoriented after he encountered a child in his enclosure saturday. >> we did not take the shooting of harambe lightly, but the child's life was in danger. >> monday, thane maynard doubled down on the decision to shoot the western lowland gorilla -- oh, my god. >> after a 4-year-old boy climbed over a public barrier into the gorilla habitat. >> people who question that don't understand you can't take a risk with a silverback gorilla. they're very big. three times bigger than a man. six times stronger. this video, kim o'connor heard the boy and his mother arguing shortly before the incident. >> i'm going to go in. no you are not. i'm going to go in. no you are not.

the gorilla world exhibit at the cincinnati zoo is set to reopen with a new secure barrier. it comes after the zoo killed harambe the gorilla to protect a 3-year-old boy who fell in the enclosure. after investigating, the prosecutor determined the mother was not at fault. we get more from cnn's brynn. >> reporter: hamilton county prosecuting attorney joe deters said they wept to the zoo and collected video and ultimately they decided no charges would be placed against this mother. he said what they saw was this mother turned her back for merely seconds to tend to one of her other three children at the zoo and that is when her boy climbed through the fence and into the enclosure. the prosecutor said any parent with a child that age can understand how this happened. it was certainly tragic. as for the family, they released a statement saying they thought this would happen and no charges would be filed and this is soot step forward to getting past this tragedy and they hope to get back to a normal life. the zoo will reopen later today. there will be a higher fence at that parti
