the metro is going to see rain for nearly the whole day, but the bigger story will be the freezing rain and snow in western and northwest iowa. falling temperatures are going to transition rain in northwest and western iowa into a wintry mix and freezing rain starting early in the morning through the afternoon and evening. basically that line of freezing weather will work from northwest and western iowa to the east into the metro as we go through the day. the freezing rain will likely impact western iowa the most as they should see higher ice accumulations of around 0.1" to 0.2" in a few places. most of the ice accumulation is really going to start sticking around in far western iowa around 10 or 11am, and progressively accumulate to the east through the rest of the afternoon. snow will be falling in far northwest iowa with 1 to 3 inches expected mainly northwest of fort dodge focused along denison to storm lake and mason city. rain will likely change over into a wintry mix after 6pm here in the metro and even some freezing rain after that, but it will have trouble sticking to the roads

jack/2bam we're getting a look at the damage left behind southwest of the metro. local 5's nikki davidson is in winterset with the latest. nikki davidson: "yeah, guys, here in winterset we saw a lot of heavy winds today, and even some damage reported in the town. and i'm joined right now by the superintendent of winterset high school, dr. susie meade. susie, there's been some damage here on the campus. can you tell me about it? susie meade: " yeah, our damage was our football field scoreboard we had a roof on the softball dugout and then some assorted damage to a storage building. nikki davidson: and you told me earlier that you were actually in town when the storm passed through. what was it like to be here during it it was very quick. we got a message shortly before 3 o'clock that we were under a tornado warning. we called all of our buildings and said to go under the procedures and probably within in a minute or so the event was over. but we did keep kids in shelter, until we were for certain that they were safe. and we held the buses for half an hour until we w

nikki: police are investigating two other homicides in the metro over the weekend. in waukee-- police were called to the 500 block of southeast around 1:30 morning. that's where officers found a man with multiple gun shots wounds. 41-year-old gino to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. several hours later, police arrested 42-year old brendan mcguinness in the afternoon and charged him with first degree murder. nikki: multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search for mcguinness... he was arrested on the east side of des moines when a passerby found him on a sidewalk with a minor head injury... not knowing who he was officers responded to assist and recognized mcguinness. he was arrested without inicident... friends of the suspect and victim can't understand why this happened... "they had a little quarrel that they were kind of working through from an incident that happened a couple months again, but nothing that would lead to murder." nikki: mcguinness is held in the dallas county jail. this is waukee's first homicide in nearly 40 years
