it's expected to dock at the port of oakland in about 35 minutes. we can tell you right now 3,500 people on board that ship with more than 21, at least 21 people tested positive for the coronavirus. so we do know that two passengers tested positive as well as 19 crew members. now, once they dock there at the port of oakland, they will get the two passengers off of the boat and then followed by the other passengers on board. the crew members will actually stay on board the ship. there is 11 acres on the port of oakland that they have set aside, they will deboard all of those passengers and those who are from california will stay here. all of those passengers will be quarantined for two weeks, and that's just standard procedure there for those measures. now, of course, they are being escorted now to the port of oakland. we have been watching and waiting for this to happen. originally that boat was supposed to port in san francisco but now at the port of oakland. that's expected to happen at noon today. of course we'll bring you those updates throughout

many dock workers at the port say they're working to stop the work to the community. >> it's presenting a problem and health risk for the workers out here today but for the community. there's too much unknown for the coronavirus to take these kind of chances. >> the dockworkers held a rally at the port yesterday voicing their concerns. >>> our time is 7:05, today's day one of that 15 day school closure in the oakland unified school district because of the coronavirus. while students can't go to class, they don't have to worry about going hungry. ktvu sarah is in oakland. you have more on all of that. >> reporter: this is one of 12 locations in the school district offering students lunch. a lot of students within the district do rely ongoing to school and getting their free meals and created panic that was announced and no students will go hungry. in one hour, these grab and go locations will open all across oakland. there are 12 of them total and are open to anyone under the age of 18. more than 70% of students rely on the free and discounted meal programs. you don't have to be a studen

i asked a man who works at the port of oakland if he's okay with this decision. that the ship come in tomorrow. this is what he had to say. >> it was in san francisco, and they should be able to try to handle it there instead of shipping it somewhere else, you know. so, i mean -- they're going to do what they want to do, but in essence, if it's a problem started there, they should be able to try to contain it and maintain it where it's at.ke ia went on to say that he's okay with the ship being docked at the port, he's just concerned about the whole process here. he like many other people doesn't want the virus to spread when passengers start getting off of the ship. he believes the problem could get worse if there is any mix-up over the next couple of days. i did talk with a number of people here in oakland who say they are okay with the decision, saying they feel for those passengers and that those people deserve to be taken off that ship. >> i understand the coronavirus is a global threat, and i think i understand the statistics. so i'm accepting the threat leve

and headed for a dock at the port of oakland . for some passengers, the trip to and follows a happy change from cruising to nowhere. all along the waterfront, there were many of onlookers. one man even held out a welcome back sign. the passengers will be tested before they move on. a fleet of ambulances was made ready for those already sick from the virus. emt crews will have the quickest and most urgent duties. just before 230, two people walked off the ship under their own power, one was put into an ambulance and the other one rode in the front. they were later taken to a hospital. just after 4:00, another person was taken by ambulance to a hospital. then, just before four then, just before 4:30, a bus left the port for parts unknown. everybody also be sent to quarantine facilities at travis air force base, or san diego, san antonio, or other places as circumstances warrant. the crew will remain quarantined on board. with local, national, and international media watching this bizarre scene, the ship's closest neighbors, port truc
