right now the storm team 4 radar up close is scanning the sky. of gray i saw them when i was on the weather deck. you can see there's a bottoms of the clouds so there's some snow trying to fall out, but it's not reaching the ground yet. but it may over the next couple hours, getting a few scattered flurries and the upper levels are cold enough for snow and right now at low levels it's above freezing in washington. an inch in the suburbs accumulation later today. around the metro area a little light sleet and snow coming into our western suburbs. but after that maybe around 8:00 p.m. a little bit of that. then to rain by early this evening. and no accumulation around the d.c. metro area. this is not going to be a major event for us and a minor impact for the afternoon commute. most roads will just be wet between 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. it's off just to our north and east where we may get a coating to an inch. that's in this zone, maybe baltimore over towards northeastern maryland. the rest of the region no accumulation at all. to the west of hagerstown,

here's the latest on storm team 4 radar. we'll zoom in where there's some rain falling inside the beltway. the pink, that's the freezing rain and sleet and it will be hanging on for a couple more hours. there's another wave to the west that will be moving through. here's whey like for this evening. our temperatures will be going up. that advisory through the counties in purple mostly maryland loudoun county included too. temperatures rising from the low and mid-30s in a few locations to our north and west to upper 30s by 9:00 10:00. all this ending and moving out around 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. that's round one. round two we get the heavy rain. that's tomorrow. then some colder air comes in late tomorrow. what that will do is allow this to change over from rain to the white that you see. that is snow. that is the transition that we'llweill be taking place. what will have a major impact on our area, this major system for late tomorrow into thursday. heavy rain we'll talk amounts and areas might see localized flooding. more impo

zero of the storm team 4 center, what are we expecting? >> we're expecting that rain really overnight tonight and the transition into snow happens tomorrow morning. a lot of people will wake up look outside and say, guys, it's supposed to be snowing. no. we'll see a difference. this is why. take a look at this map. one thing to notice here's the cold air up around pittsburgh and state college. that's what's coming down. look at this, 72 in virginia beach, 59 in richmond, 46 here. it's going to rain until this cold air is able to work its way in. right now we dao have the rain coming down fairly heavy around martinsburg, hagerstown, toward frederick and now into portions of northern virginia and most of the state of maryland. we're going to continue to watch as this plume of moisture works its way our way. again, notice where the cold air is back toward cincinnati. they're seeing the snow and that transmission is going to make its way our way overnight tonight in through early tomorrow morning. it will all be snow by around 9:00 in most area

the timing of the slushy snow accumulation is from now up to about lunchtime. storm teamadar showing the snow. as we zoom in, you can see the rain/snow line is moving through downtown washington. so northwest d.c. getting the snow. snow being reported in winchester virginia. but this is all rain woodbridge to dumfries quantico triangle stafford all rain. down towards leonard town and california maryland. how much should you expect today? from a snow slush accumulation generally an inch or less across most of the metro, but northern and western suburbs here a slushy 1 to 3 inches of snow is a real possibility. much more impactful amounts of snee snow across northern maryland panhandle of west virginia, 3 to 5 inches indeed a possibility. so your morning planner, plan on wet snow here for the next couple of hours. gradually becoming more of a rain/snow mix as opposed to a snow/rain mix. upper 30s later on this afternoon, perhaps near 40 by about 5:00 today as most of the rain will be coming to an end by then. going out for your friday night, roads will still be wet through
