the ymca down the block will be 174 new studio units, 100% linked with the health department. we will be referring homeless clients with health issues into that project. we will decoupling it with an 11,000-square-foot health center on the ground floor. so for me, this is an extremely innovative project. tndc is a great partner on it. so with that, congratulations to tndc, and good luck on all of our future collaborations. thank you. the crop or the bottom was wiped out the of urban renewal and replaced with civic centers, hotels, the ymca, state government buildings, the state to our. applause of shops. you know, the vision was that this would be kind of a pedestrian mall that you could walk in shop and what not. we've are standing on the corner of the grounds of the old state capitol in frankfurt. right across the street from the old state capital is really where "crawfish bottom" began, which is interesting that you have the state legislature right across the streets from what was considered the bad part of town. it was considered the neglected part of town. and you are a stone's throw away from where laws were happening. but it was actually about 50 acres that was taken out by urban renewal. and so there are a lot of questions, even with people who lived there that could not really give a consistent answer as to exactly what blocks and streets made up the neighborhood, which is kind of the fun of it. to hear them talk about these sort of shifting boundaries of this neighborhood and what you considered to be crossed.

we do that with the school district, the boys club and the ymca. the connection is the important thing. without the connection and listening relationship, there is no trust. that's what we strive to build. >> thank you. did you want to add something, angela? >> yes, i did, i had a couple of action items. i think this is a good time to add. to officer parillo. there's a lot of great programs. i noticed these programs are sporadic. there's a couple at this school and this school. maybe a year, 2 years. there's maybe one program. not that many programs that we invest in long term. i was looking at this the other day with the contents. if you look at the back. there's a charter of the usfd. violence prevention chart. the most important part for me is the school wide behavior program. what's been found to be the best way to prevent violence is have a school wide program. it has to be embedded in your curriculum. the different ways you create different rules in class and how do deal with that. there's an entire school investment that has to be involved in

first name and the kids who knew this captain surh who was there supporting the boys and girls club, the ymca in the community. he did the same thing when he was captain in the mission. his reputation around the police department has been impeccable. his life has been exposed. so has mine. in my last interview, i did tell him that some people may say that you are part of the old boys' network. we have the conversation about what his life has been about. >> he said it is like me. we had a chance to work with each other. we went back to the years when he was out of uniform and working with the puc as kind of their homeland security. i had a chance to work with greg. he thrust himself into that job so thoroughly. he began to know all of the intricacies of the water system. he knew the groups there. he interacted with the federal state authorities for that. he did a very thorough job. that kind of focus and dedication said to me that he can take care of the changes needed in the department, make the commitment, and see it through. those were the final decision makers for me, how he would continue

they don't have the money to put their kids like at the ymca for a summer program. >> reporter: measure c was a parcel tax that voters approved. this year city leaders have not doled out measure c money into the communities because they are not sure they've been spent properly in years past. they've hired a private consultant. >> this isn't about funding a program, it's about funding a strategy to reduce crime in the community. >> reporter: in the meantime the city has used $200,000 from its general fund. the other half of measure c money has been given to police. chief ron davis says it is funding three officers who would have been laid off. >> the attempt was to expand the department. but in this economy maintaining it is an expansion. we're able to respond to these hikes. >> reporter: chief davis will be updating the community about the up tick in homicides. he says they are gang related and it seems to stem from gang members fighting with each other. janine de la vega, ktvu news. >> antioch police say they are looking for two men in connection with a drive by shooting that sent a wo

we did cops and kids, a bowling fund-raiser with the forty- niners and the bayview ymca. we participated in the community forum in chinatown. we worked with handicapped kids at the janet pomeroy center. we will be doing a lot of things in sports. that is pretty much what has happened. in the next 100 days, we have much that is going to come forward. we have been meeting with the golf association on the u.s. open. fleet week, the marines memorial, and all of our armed services for fleet week in october. america's cup trials are next year. the actual race is the following year. i think largely, and due in part because of the folks behind me, the men and women in patrol, and the community support of this commissioner and the mayor's office, that concludes our report. president mazzucco: thank you. i want to say that in my time on the commission this has been the most comprehensive, relevant report i have ever heard. you have talked about in your first 114 days, with crisis that took place in between that -- significant community involvement, which is one of the things that wa
