nbc bay area's thom jensen is in the newsroom. >> the cdc dropped the plans on them with little notice and virtually no details at about exactly how many people would be coming and why. it's estimated, though, that 30 to 50 people who had been exposed to the coronavirus on the diamond princess cruise ship in japan and who had been under quarantine at travis air force base would have been moved. costa mesa's mayor was joined by leaders from across orange county in the call to stop the relocation. >> this isn't just about costa mesa. this is about our orange county region, and we are all united in addressing this what we think is a public health crisis here in our community. >> reporter: community leaders questioned why such a densely populated area would be high on the government's list of relocation sites for coronavirus patients. the fairview development center where the patients would have been housed is currently empty, but it once served as an assisted living center for people with disabilities. the california health and human services agency released a statement today saying the f

patients are being treated at a medical center in napa and that's are where "today in the bay's" thom jensen joins us live this morning. thom? >> reporter: good morning. we can tell you we've not heard back from hospital officials about a news conference where we're supposed to get more details about the patients but we can confirm from county health officials that as you said one of those patients here at the hospital, there are two here of the 14, one has tested positive for the coronavirus and the other one has symptoms and is undergoing testing and they are two of the 14 americans rescued from that cruise ship you were talking about where with more than 350 people became ill with the virus. taken to travis air force base and then taken to area hospitals isolation rooms. nearly 74,000 people have been infected by the virus and 2000 have died. most of the deaths and infections are in china where the outbreak began this winter and where there are now 100 new deaths daily and 1,700 new infections according to the world health organization. because of a limited number of isolation beds in sol

thom jensen joins us from the air force base. and when will the people finally be able to head home. >> reporter: we don't have the expect hour but we do know from base officials they'll begin in groups later on this morning gradually releasing the 170 or so released today. these are the first people to be evacuated to travis air force base and begin later this morning and continue throughout the day until all of those designated to b released. weeks, a 14-day quarantine. last night we were able to talk to one woman and she told us her family story via facetime. she and her daughters quarantined here separated from her husband who is back home in wisconsin. >> can't wait to see my husband and meet up with some friends. the kids are really excited to see him after a few weeks being apart. we're going to get our temperature checked tomorrow morning and then we're going to receive a document to show that we're ready and healthy to get exposed to the public. >> reporter: daisy ross was visiting family in wuhan when the outbreak began

we're live in san francisco, thom jensen, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. >>> in the south bay now, similar crimes not far from each other have arson investigators working overtime. new video shows someone riding a bike along atlanta avenue in willow glen in san jose and firing off a molotov cocktail towards a home. this happened last sunday night. you see that person fling something towards the house, and then you see the flames. the homeowner was able to put out the fire with a garden hose. thankfully no one was hurt. this is the second time something like this has happened in the past few days. we told you on monday that a molotov cocktail was tossed towards a home on east san fernando street, which is less than five miles away from that other incident. no one was injured in this case as well. arson investigators aren't sure if the same person is responsible for both crimes. >>> well, in class but not on campus. mcclymonds high school remains closed for toxic chemical testing. so the students are off campus and taking some educational field trips. some of them got a firsthand to

nbc bay area tom jensen live outside the club and how this all happened. thom?>> reporter: people were lucky. you can see one of the gunshots went through the front door here. the bar was packed with patrons when a man who was kicked out minutes earlier started firing. a bartender who was inside when it happened told us he heard two or three shots inside the bar and then the suspect ran back outside, got in the car and fired two more shots. we saw five casings on the ground outside here. one of them going through the window. remarkically no one was hit with the bullets. >> it could have been a lot worse, you know, with something like that. six shots just fired randomly could be ricochetted or hit anybody. so i think everybody is kind of lucky in a sense that -- that nobody was hurt. >> reporter: and we're on the third street side here right outside the grounds. this is where the suspect crashed his maroon suv into a pole about a block away. the suspect also sideswiped a gray toyota. no one was hurt inside that car according to san francisco police. police also r
