[applause] >> it feels so incredible to be back on the farm. 16 years ago, i made a decision that changed my life. i was a sophomore, studying political science, and i was living and -- living in roebling. me and my best friends decided to apply to study abroad. come that fall my best friends , were off to santiago and madrid, and i was off to washington, d.c. i have been accepted into stanford and as part of that i , was placed in a full-time internship as the lawyers committee for civil rights and this was during the 2006 midterm elections, so there election protection program was in full swing. three months and hundreds of thousands of calls about election protection later, i caught the bug to continue to do work to increase voting access and i also learned one of the most important lessons that i have not been able to shake, which is that the overall health of our democracy, whether we have a voting process that is fair and trustworthy, is more important than any one election outc
