also tim miller, host of "the bulwark podcast." thank you for being here lwto respond to this very new and significant developments happening within the last hour. melissa, first, let me get your thoughts on the double whammy lobbed trump's way at denials from conservative courts. how significant are they? >> they're obviously significant. the ruling from the supreme court puts in place -- cements the sentencing that is going to happen and that will make donald trump the first convicted felon to be inaugurated as president. breaking barriers all over the place here. and the other ruling is very significant. i will note the 11th circuit left judge cannon's ruling blocking the release of the report for three days after the decision on appeal, so that means we won't get the release of this until sunday as you noted. merrick garland suggested he was not going to release the mar-a-lago report because there are two additional defendants there, co-defendants of donald trump. that i think is a little interesting and concerning because it i

let me start with you, tim.e donald trump is sentenced, he officially becomes a convicted felon. what is the legal significance of this? >> tremendous, alex. i kind of disagree with vaughn's preface that there's no legal consequence. there's obviously a legal consequence any time someone has a felony conviction. can't possess a firearm. in some states you can't vote unless your rights are restored. lots of lateral consequences of conviction that afflict men and women across the country. those are the legal consequences. the reputational consequence of having a felony conviction. so while it's not a period of incarceration or monetary penalty, there are still collateral consequences just by having the status of being a convicted felon. >> hang on. you're saying a president of the united states would not be able to vote. certain states in which he could, mar-a-lago being his primary residence. i know they tried to restore felon's ability to vote in the state of florida. could donald trump -- >> yeah. i don't -- >>

tim, your thoughts?, first of all, talking about the chinese currency, the local currency overnight breached 7.3 on the exchange rate, which is a level they have been trying to defend. i am not saying that they won't continue to try to defend it, but i think you have to watch the currency here and have to atch currency flight, that's something that chass china very nervous in the past. china is a market that most investors that watch the show don't need to own. it's a market that selectively there are names that you can own. now, 24 shaped up to be the year that china sentiment was as low as i have ever seen in all my years trading international. that was probably appropriate. if you think about it, we had a number of trades within that year. i continue to think names like alphabet and tencent, as long as the government lays are, are not really china macro stories at this point. two of the most important tech companies in the world and i think you look at the balance sheet and the technology story there.
