but, tim o'brien, he is under oath so it's got to be true, right? >> you've got to believe him, lawrence. i sort of relish the idea of susan bragg and the new york times filing a -- against trump tower, to make sure they get paid at the end of the day. my colleagues at bloomberg news estimate that he has around 600 million. if it's 400 million, if it's three, if it's seven, the reality is the size of these judgments, cumulatively, are going to blow a giant hole in his wallet. i don't think he has liquid assets, which would be cash, securities, other things that he could raise money by selling quickly, i don't think that will meet most of his media needs around these penalties. as sue said, you don't know. he's a privately held enterprise so we have to rely on his own public statements. but, it is likely that he may have to sell some of his heart assets and most of his wealth is tied up in a handful of urban skyscrapers and some golf courses. the urban skyscrapers have been stressed because of covid. people have been fleeing city centers, and other r

so, you know, i would say, if she gets batting towards 500 for her judgments. >> tim o'brien, the one thing that can't be pardoned away is that now, more than half a billion dollars that trump owes in civil judgments. but andrew has raised that question of where might donald trump turn for that money? >> well, as andrew tells you, he put his finger right on. this is of course a core issue about a presidential candidate being subject to enormous financial conflicts of interest that will compromise him now, will compromise him when he enters the oval office in the fall. but it's also really important to recognize it isn't a new problem. this problem was there in 2016 when trump was elected. trump was trying to get a real estate deal done in moscow while he was running for president. during his first term, or perhaps his last term, he did political favors for the saudis. after he left the white house, his son-in-law, who has no track record, would have warranted this kind of investment, as an investor, got two billion dollars from the saudis. his former treasury secretary got billions fr

joining me now, msnbc political analyst and senior executive editor at bloomberg opinion tim o'brien.d to talk to you about these things. you wrote this book on donald trump. you interviewed him for that. he has already been ordered to pay e. jean carroll more than $83 million. he could be forced to pay three or four times that amount in his civil fraud trial. does donald trump have the cash to pay for the settlements? >> i think he actually definitely does have the cash. i don't think he will light paying its. the total bill in the e. jean carroll case is actually over $88 million. it was a 5 million dollar judgment in the previous ruling on one of her claims against him. then your case is 370 million. does donald trump have the wherewithal to swallow payments up to $400 million? he does. he actually probably has cash somewhere in that neighborhood. will he willingly part with it again? i think not. in both cases, you are going to have to see the courts come after him and attacked some of his assets. most of donald trump's wealth is tied up in a handful of urban skyscrapers whose val
