the author of that bill, assembly member phil ting, wants to expand it to the entire state. today he introduced bill 881. it would only apply to low- to moderate-income jurors, roughly making less than $40,000 a year based on new data from the pilot program. the assembly member says the purpose of the bill is to make juries more racially diverse by giving low-income people, who would otherwise maybe not participate because of financial hardship, the opportunity to serve on a jury. >> and unfortunately, when you look at who comes through the criminal justice system, it's disproportionately people of color, lower-income, working families, unfortunately, and that's not reflective of our jury. >> abbey, i want to ask you, okay, $15 a low amount, but $15 to $100 a day seems to be a significant increase. but even so, that $100 doesn't even equal the state's minimum wage, right? >> that's important to know. minimum wage in california is $15.50 an hour, as of the beginning of the year. i did some quick math here. at $100 per day for an eight-hour shift is roughly $12.50 an hour, so
