julie: she will get deals and then a big selection out of tj maxx than they would in the spring of thiselling season. betty: i know where i am headed. stay with me on retail. i want to bring in someone who has her finger on the pulse of u.s. consumers. kay koplovitz is the nonexecutive chairman and also sits on the board. great to have you on this morning. kay: glad to be here talking about retail. betty: is this a hard time these days? kay: it is difficult. it is true there was a delay and an overabundance of inventory, everybody has that problem to deal with today. off-price marketers will benefit. but also, the malls that have the outlet malls today are very popular. that is another place where people will find a lot of inventory right now i think. >> inventory and the other issue is the stronger dollar. we saw last month where the stronger dollar hit margins. will that only get worse? kay: it depends on how much they suffer on that. kate does not have the largest footprint in europe just in the u.k. a very small european folks would -- european footprint. the market has been sinking

walmart and tj joined gap and ikea and raising pay for workers. these bigger retailers so eager to boost wages for entry-level employees? julie hyman is here to explain. >> we have all been -- >> welcome to international women's day. >> while you're talking, was thinking about what i would do. i will leave it there. i want to talk about retail wages. there are a lot of different reasons that we've been talking about, ever since walmart made the announcement was going to be raising wages. one of the maybe it is very costly to train new workers and there's a high rate of turnover, increasing rate of turnover in the retail industry. if you look at the so-called quicks level, the rate at which people quit retail jobs in particular, it has been picking up pretty steadily over the past year or so. now it is a rate of 3%. if you combine that with the firing rate as well, for whatever reason they're getting rid of people, you arrive at a rate called the separation rate of about 5%, which is higher than in other industries we see, higher than the overall n
