this is the center, the eye of hurricane matthew getting closer to haiti, which is under a hurricane warning, as well as cuba, and the bahamas under a hurricane warning, a strong category 4 storm. and it is very well organized. we do not not expect this thing to be weakening dramatically anytime soon. max winds 140 miles an hour, right around the center. you see the cloud cover extending as far north already as the bahamas. the most updated track from the national hurricane center, a lot of computer models are in agreement, which is why the cone is fairly fnarrow until thursda, that this will be passing over the bahamas as a category 3 hurricane, a major hurricane. florida is a little bit more in the cone, as well as parts of the southeast, along the east coast, up through north carolina. this cone as of the 5:00 p.m. advisory has shifted a little farther to the west, that does include more of the united states. again, we're still fairly far out in time. we're looking at saturday afternoon here, approaching south or north carolina. potentially as a category 2. but this again could change. the cone gets wirde

hurricane matthew is expected to head to cuba. we north carolina. >> a new update from the national hurricane center just came in minutes ago for what it shows. let's go straight to storm teamtologist. good morning. >> good morning. guys. a minute to take a look at this track and certainly showing some changes for us here in north carolina. but let's start off where it is right now. a very strong and dangerous category 4 hurricane. to the southwest peninsula. it's expected to make land fall there. today into first thing wednesday morning. excuse me. evenly impacting the bahamas and look at this. could still be a category 4 storm in the southern portions of bahamas. weakening to a category 3. that's still a major hurricane. we're watching closely. then the east coast of florida. they are in the cone of uncertainty and look at this. the latest update bringing this storm over land along the outer banks wilmington area. i want to encourage you to not necessarily follow the track but watch these areas shaded in yellow. a wobble either w

the center has just passed to the north of this eastern portion of cuba. obviously they are getting strong winds , strong rain and still in the haiti area. this is our latest advisory. is a category 3 storm at 180 mile-per-hour winds . it is expected to regain category 4 status by tomorrow canaveral area. we will watch that closely thursday night into friday morning. of course now portions of our area is under the threat cone. we may see the storm push further toward the west. then we will pay attention to the places further to the north, but there's a lot i need to talk about. here's the forecast: it is the shallow area that is tropical storm 4 will start to feel it in highlands county, a lot of the area into friday morning could feel tropical storm force winds . that is as of the current forecast. here's the interesting thing: in the last few minutes we got these new computer models and a lot of them are starting to turn this back to the north going up to the carolinas and within back around. it will really be interesting to see what the national hurrican
