i'm joined now by cnn's brian todd, who is in bowdoin, maine., you have been watching this all play out tonight. what do we know about where police are focusing their efforts and how that changes now that it's dark outside? >> well, kaitlan, what i can tell you is in the last few minutes a law enforcement officer came up to this position here and advised us basically this is no longer a scene, indicating that law enforcement has extracted itself from the scene. we witnessed that. we witnessed several vehicles leaving here a short time ago. it is complete darkness at the home of robert card. but we can tell you that for the last two and a half to three hours, it was a scene. they had converged with pretty, you know, i would say -- i would say some serious force to the house. a lot of law enforcement vehicles, personnel, air assets, k-9 teams. they had fanned out actually in a field next to the house as well. they trained a spotlight on the house. they operated their drones and their spotlight to try to figure out if something or someone was insid

todd piro is here with the details. todd?s nearly two decades after the alabama teen vanished while celebrating high school graduates in aruby bra. last seen leaving the nightclub with van der sloot who is the suspect in disappearance. he was indicted back in june accused of telling natalee's mother he would we have the location of her body in exchange for $250,000. the holloway family attorney says van der sloot is expected to take that plea deal but it is contingent on his revealing details of how natalee died and what happened to her body dutch national serving 28 year prison sentence in peru killing another young woman in 2010 weeks before the alleged extortion scheme. van der sloot will not be charged for holloway's hurt even if he does reveal details about her death because the statute of limitations is up in aruba. natalee's parents and brother are expected to attend that hearing. they have submitted victim impact statements that will be heard before sentence going van der sloot takes the plea deal no cameras will be a
