"it's that time of year again, the university of okoboji winter games, and they're predicted to be the biggest yet." ...which is always held during the last weekend of january. organizers say they're expecting record numbers in the thousands this year. there will be over 100 events on schedule, more than any other year. "i don't think there's any event really truly like it in the state of iowa. i received entry forms you know i have a broomball team from new york that plays every year. ople just want to get out and have fun regardless of what the temperatate is and like i said people have cabin fever, winter blues and the university of okoboji winter games is a cure for all of that," said program director at iowa great lakes area chamber of commerce, jen johnson-ross. day one included a tiki in the tent party. friday is the swim suits and snow boots competition. saturday includes mega snow pong , broom ball and an omelette brunch. ktiv's tommie clark k sited a uple of the college's five campuses and found out how they hope to make those improvements. << iowa lakes community college wants to spruce up for the future. "we also have a lot of projects that we need up front of that 30 year plan and it's something that we have never done before. we have never asked our voters to consider a bond referendum to help us with our facilities," said iowa lakes community college president, valerie newhouse. a bond referendum worth 16-million- dollars. it would be spread out over 15-years with money coming from property taxes. "it'll make us more competitive with other community colleges. we forward or you get left behind and that's the biggest reason we're doing it now because all five campuses are in need of some updating," said iowawa lakes board ofofrustees vice president, pat kibbie. "although all of the iowa lakes campuses need improvements, the emmetsburg campus needs the most." the decades old main facility isn't energy efficient and they want to move all student services under one roof. another campus looking for imp

and, as ktiv's tommie clark tells us, lots of those mills are close to home. << "here at the sioux city animal adoption and rescue center the dogs are taken care of, but at some other facilities that's not always the case." hundreds of dog breeding facilities, or "puppy mills", exist in iowa. and, according to iowa friends ofofompanion animals over 40 exist in norththst iowa, alone. "in recent years, since the 2010 puppy mill bill has been passed, we've kennels increase so it's clear that the current legislation is not working and we need better oversight," said iowa friends of companion animals siouxland local advocacy team leader, kathie pfaffle. iowa continues to rank high on the list of states with some of the worst puppy mills, according to a report released by the humane society of the united states. the u.s. department of agriculture inspects these breeding facilities. but, one local advocacy group says that's not enough. ktiv's tommie clark was on scene today and spoke with investigators. tommie what's the latest? matt and sheila, sunday night, airport officials diverted the flight because of bad weather and investigators searched until the plane was found. now, the national transportation safety board is leading the investigation into what caused the crash. << jim hoffman of wayne municipal airport got a call late sunday evening to check on a plane coming in from missouri that had gone missing. "we were out searching in the area here from the airport a couple of us as well as all the surrounding fire departments and police departments and everything," said wayne municipal airport caretaker, jim hoffman. seven hours later, he heard it was found. the plane's pilot was pronounced dead at t t scene. "we were out searching in the area here from the airport a couple of ususs well as all the surrounding fire departments and police departments and everything," said wayne municipal airport caretaker, jim hoffman. seven hours later, he heard it was found. the plane's pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.
