good afternoon, i am tori campbell. this is a strange chain of events. it started with a vandalized taxicab and a shooting. brian flores joins us and explains how the suspect was found quickly. >> reporter: well the driver, suspect, officer, all of those people were not injured. if it wasn't for the cab's company investment in gps tracking, they may not have found the suspect so quickly. >> pacific heights is a quiet neighborhood. at 3:30 this morning, they flagged down a cab. the cab driver pulled over thinking it was a fare and as he did, it got loud. >> the suspects began jumping up and down. and they shattered the windshield of the taxicab. >> he took advice and locked all the doors. few minutes later. he opened the door and left the cab with the keys in the ignition. the 25-year-old suspect took off in the cab. >> you are concerned about driver safety. when i heard the driver was okay. that was my first priority. >>> the cab company's dispatch was able to record the cab's every moment and following it into jackson and spruce where they created a per

i'm tori campbell. >>> an early-morning fire on beltle island destroyed two homes and left a third badly damaged. the fire first broke out at 2:30 this morning on taylor road and quickly spread to two adjacent homes on either side. claudine wong explains why a series of issues may have impacted the response. >> reporter: had is what residents on taylor saw -- this is what residents on the 1400 block of taylor saw. flames devouring this one-story home. >> i was sleeping. somebody was banging downstairs. i went out and saw the house engulfed in flames. >> reporter: firefighters came from about five miles further because the closest firefighting station closed due to budget cuts. the single story could not be saved, it soon became clear, and the focus was saving the others on either side. downed power lines hampered the effort to protect the brown home on the ear side. >> we didn't pull back completely. we will to readjust -- on either side. >> we didn't pull back completely. we had to readjust. >> reporter: and as the sun came up, the firefighters just continued to dump thousands of gallon

i'm tori campbell.n investigation is now underway after a house fire left a firefighter injured this morning in san francisco. we have more details now on a story that was breaking at the end of "mornings on 2." ktvu's tara moriarty is live on 8th avenue near morago with some pictures that show how marijuana may have had a role in this fire. >> reporter: well, the good news, the firefighter is okay. he suffered a possible dislocated shoulder. his own crews transported him to ucsf, but behind me is the house where you can see he fell inside there and crews stumbled upon something else inside. heavy smoke billowed from the roof of this home on 8th avenue near noriega street. >> it was an interior attack, offensive attack. we went right in and directed our hoses in the fire. it's a bit windy. the homes are all attached and wood frame. >> reporter: we watched one firefighter being let out on a gurney. he slipped on stairs. it's what the crews found upstairs that caused them to call police. >> i guess in the

good afternoon, i am tori campbell. the oakland police department graduate its first academy of police officers in 4 years today, brian flores is live in oakland to explain how this may make the streets safer. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon, the goal certainly is to make the streets safer in oakland. as you mentioned the first graduating class since november of 2008, not only a big day for them but also for the families who have sacrificed so much. this is the city's 166th police academy class, 38 officers graduated today, including two from vallejo, the class marks the first of many things, for one the first class under police chief howard jordan and mayor jean kwan and the first diverse class in its history, out of the graduating class 11 different language including those. the chief says it marks a turning point for them and this new class is meant to do that, and he hopes that. he does say this class has boosted the department's morale. >> for the last six months the president of this academy has done t

good afternoon, i am tori campbell. they are facing that. tara moriarty talked with the auditor about the interference in a bidding process for a construction project. good afternoon. >> reporter: some pretty big fireworks here this morning all over this, it is an auditor's report which says shows two council members crossed the line and mis-used their power in office. the most telling pages are on 16 and 17. the auditor says the parts in red show where council members desly brooks and larry ride interfered with a construction contracting process by either hiring workers or buying supplies. it outlines the bidding process in a 2 million dollar construction contract for the army base. courtney ruby said her probe found a total of 14 instances of city charter violations, a dozen of them by councilwoman brooks and one by reid. >> at no point in time may we ever jiff that justify to break the law, this is the city charter and we sign on to upheld this when we take our oath. >> we caught up with them, who denied the allegations and questioned her

i'm tori campbell. it's friday, march 15th. >>> breaking news in san francisco. a wild chain of events led officers to shoot at a carjacked taxicab. it all began at jackson and buchanan street. shots were fired at jackson and spruce and it ended at fort mason. that's where brian flores is. >> reporter: we're live here in fort mason. you are taking a live look here. that's the taxicab vandalized and then later stolen. the suspect was later taken into custody. we want to go to the new video just into the ktvu newsroom. a suspect vandalized a taxicab around jackson and bu can son. the driver of the taxicab got out, confronted the suspect, there was some type of confrontation and then somehow the suspect entered the taxi and drove away with it. now, sfpd was able to find the driver. what we're hearing is the suspect rammed the taxi into a patrol car. we're also hearing that shots were later fired but the suspect was able to escape until he go the here in the fort mason area. -- until he got here in the fort mason area. back out here live at fort mason, officers are s

. >> i'm tori campbell. happening now, in oakland, federal agents and local police are teaming up for a major crime sweep. brian flores is live from oakland with new information on this developing story. >> reporter: good morning to you. what we are learning is that this police raid involving oakland police as well as united states marshalls, they arrested several people this morning starting at around two on people involved in violent crime. this was confirmed when we pulled up about six a large group of officers and some heavy tactical gear and armored vehicles. the police station served as a regrouping point for the operation which included opd and united states marshalls. attorneys also involved here as well. they have a command unit based in front of the station also. it's still not clear in terms of the details on this operation but we just confirmed there was a large group of people arrested this morning. we believe the operation continues on for at least right now. several people involved in violent
