. >> good morning, i'm tori campbell. pam cook has the morning off. happening right now high winds have toppled trees and knocked power to thousands in the bay area. ktvu channel 2 tara moriarty is live in the san francisco where blowing sand is forcing officials to shut down the great highway and it looks blustery out there. >> reporter: it certainly is. it's a combination between chicago and the sierra because -- and the sahara because of the amounts of sand blowing across the highway. whipping into your face and eyes making it difficult to see. if we pan to the right you can see the wind is making the light bobble around. crews are working on getting that all cleared up. the wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour out here. the sand has blown in drifts all over the great highway. so officials have shut down the highway from lincoln has slowed. they have shut down the southbound lane from here to skyline. and working on shutting down the road in other direction because it's too dangerous to drive in the conditions. car wheels are getting stuck in the sand

i'm tori campbell. >>> a fake tweet this morning briefly sends the stock market sharply lower. at 10:07 this morning, a tweet that appeared from "the associated press" said "breaking -- two explosions in the white house and barack obama is injured." the tweet was fake. the a.p. twitter account was hacked. the president's fine and there are no explosions. within minutes, the a.p. suspended its account. it released a statement saying the account had been hacked and the tweet about the white house was false. that's at about 10:12. between the hack statement and the tweet, the dow jones fell over 150 points. also markets went down. by 10:13, stock, bonds and crude oil were all trading before about where they were before the tweet. the dow is back up 123 points at 14,691. the nasdaq is up 30. s&p is up 13. >>> budget headaches strike again in contra costa county. four fire stations were shut down earlier this year and now two more could be on the chopping block. we mentioned the story on "mornings on 2" today. new at noon, sal castanedo joins us live with ri action to the possible c

i'm -- i'm tori campbell. we begin with the boston marathon bombing hospital being moved to a massachusetts prison. dzhokhar tsarnaev is now being treated in the fort devens army base prison. that facility -- that facility treats patients who require long-term medical care. the casualty figure shows that 260 people were injured in the boston bombs. that's far more than first reported. 31 people remain in hospital area trauma centers including many victims who lost their arms and feet. one charity group has already raised $25 million in individual and corporate donations to help pay the hospital bills. >>> and the 11-year-old boy from martinez who was injured in the boston bombings is finally out of the hospital. but the healing process is just beginning. he's in a wheelchair. aaron hearn and his family decided to head out to the streets of boston yesterday where he was so badly injured. shawn thornton of the boston bruins gave him an autographed hat and a boston police officer took this pine off his uniform an

i'm claudine wong in for tori campbell. >>> topping our news this morning -- the new bay bridge, engineers say they think they now hoe to fix the -- know how to fix the broken bolts. about you there's a catch. this could delay the opening of the bridge. caltrans met with the metropolitan transportation commission. brian flores was there and will tell us what was said. >> reporter: good afternoon. as work continues on the bay bridge, there's still concern of about 30 or more bolts that were installed earlier this year. while officials remain confident in the bridge, there's still questions on how some bolts snapped in the first place. bridge engineers gave a public update in front of the metropolitan transportation commission. at question, 30 bolts that became fractured. when they re-examined those bolts, they found bolt fractures. this morning, officials blame hydrogen which weakens the strength of the bolts but they told the commission they don't know where it came from. >> it could have come from the manufacturing process. it could have come from the fact the bolt locations were embedded

i'm pam cook in for tori campbell. >>> we begin with a developing situation in the south bay. a hazardous material situation we've been reporting on all morning has forced a power alert in the san jose area. let's get straight out to ktvu's tara moriarty who is in san jose with what is going on right now. tara? >> reporter: sabotage or stealing copper. these are some theories being floated around out here. regarding what happened this morning, vandalism to the pg&e substakes and also some -- sub station and also vandalism down the road on monterey street here. authorities say some fiber cables were cut shutting down cell and landline service for thousands of at&t customers in the san jose and gilroy area. that means 911 calls were affected, although we don't know the extent of the problem just yet. this video shows the scene headed northbound on monterey. there's a fleet of pg&e and at&t service vehicles. this is the area from which sheriff's deputies say people heard 30 to 40 gunshots around 1:45 this morning. >> the substation has vandalized earlier this morning. there was d

tori campbell is off. it's monday. april 15th. >>> a man is undergoing a medical evaluation after responding to a berkeley call. we're live on dwight way with alex savidge. >> reporter: police are still trying to sort through why this took place. this was an emergency medical call that for whatever reason turned violent. one berkeley firefighter grazed by a bullet when a man who lives in this house across the street started firing shots at firefighters. this is on the 1200 block of dwight way near san pablo. that firefighter was on the scene and didn't have to go to the hospital. police tell us the shooter is an 88-year-old man. this is video as he was taken away by paramedics for a mental evaluation. there were as many as five berkeley firefighters around 1:45 responding to that medical call when police say the man inside pulled out a gun and started firing shots. one of the firefighters was hit by a bullet but only suffered a glancing wound. the firefighters ran out of the house and police moved in to surround the pl

i'm tori campbell. >> i'm brian flores. >>> another police shooting in the bay area.st night in napa -- it happened last night in napa on gasser avenue. paul chambers joins us with more questions that still need to be answered. >> reporter: good morning, brian. we've been out here a since 4:30. we're at the sheriff's office because they are the lead investigators at this investigation. this did involve a napa police officer. they released very little information. police say this all happened just after 8:00 last night. napa special investigation bureau were watching a vehicle in this parking lot. police believe one of the three men inside the vehicle had a warrant out for an an say salt with a deadly -- for an assault with a deadly weapon. officers approached the vehicle with guns drawn. one of the men got out and got into an altercation with an agent. the officer fired one shot in the man's torso. he was taken to the hospital and his condition and name is still unknown at this hour. the other two men were taken into custody. now, police didn't say if the man or men h
