this morning so, tracie, what have we learned about what the president's doing? >> reporter: so, lindsey, we know that the president, according to his doctors, is improving. they say his vital signs are better this was after a scare over the weekend where twice his oxygen levels dropped to unsafe levels. and he was said to have a high fever. this is a different story than we heard initially from the white house, that the president only had mild symptoms he was given supplemental oxygen as a result, we also know that he was given a steroid that's typically reserved for the sickest patients now, the president's doctor, dr. sean conley, explained why he wasn't trying to mislead the media and the public when he said that the president was doing okay >> i was trying to reflect the upbeat attitude that the team, the president, this course of illness has had. didn't want to give any -- any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction, and in doing so, you know, it came off that we were trying to hide something which wasn't necessarily true. >>

tracie potts joins us. democrats can't do much to stop? >> reporter: democrats will ask her about a number of issues including same-sex marriage, abortion, and of course the affordable care act. the court is hearing a case one week after the election. they're also asking the justice department for a 2006 letter on women's reproductive rights that was missing from her application. republicans are pushing amy coney barrett as the best choice for u.s. supreme court very different opinions on this candidate from those members of the committee. >> the reason i think that amy barrett is a rock star and should be on the court is because she's very clear about her jurisprudence. she's an originalist and textualist when she puts on her black robe in the morning, she knows what that is. that is to cloak your personal preferences. >> given judge barrett's conflicts of interests, she should recuse herself from any decision involving the affordable care act and its protections and any decisions related to the election that we will have on november 3rd.

ben tracy, thank you.ht, the other stunning news here in washington, the nation's top general and other military leaders are in quarantine after possible exposure to the coronavirus, raising concerns about the implications for our national security. cbs' david martin reports tonight from the pentagon. >> reporter: virtually all the senior-most military officers in the pentagon are quarantined and working from home, starting with the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, general mark milley, and the vice chairman, general john hyten, who was in charge of the military's response to the coronavirus. nine four-star officers, including the heads of the army, navy, and air force met last friday with the vice commandant of the coast guard, admiral charles ray, who tested positive on monday. it is not known where ray contracted the virus, but on the sunday after that rose garden announcement of president trump's supreme court nominee, now considered a super-spreader event, the admiral and some of the other now-qu

our tracie potts joins us. the president is heading to arizona today. >> well, we're going to see both campaigns out west today both the president and senator kamela harris hitting arizona. joe biden back on the east coast, again, drilling down on coronavirus with a briefing and a speech on that topic, but when it comes to driving out the vote, interestingly the president is focusing on the battleground states especially the midwestern states he picked up from democrats four years ago. we're seeing joe biden make an interesting pitch for states like texas where our records show it's a tossup and georgia where he told voters if we win georgia, we win everything but the president is predicting big republican wins on election day. >> you're going to see a red wave like they've never seen before, and they saw a very big one. this is going to be bigger and they know it this is going to be beautiful. it doesn't have to start on tuesday. it can start early early voting. >> time and again throughout our history, we've

tracie potts has more. seven days left. >> hey, frances. yeah, we don't have a lot of time left. president trump picked up 50% of the vote last time around in georgia. not the bigger majority republicans we've seen in the past and now they're thinking they can make a bid for this very red state so biden today is headed to take a look at getting votes in georgia, rural votes, urban votes. he's headed to atlanta for a drive-in rally meantime president trump has yet again three rallies on his schedule today in wisconsin and in michigan. he's sweeping the midwest, which he won unexpectedly last time around he's trying to hold onto those states and coronavirus continues to be the big issue on the campaign trail. how the administration has dealt with it and whether or not they can get rid of this pandemic. >> we're rounding the turn what progress we've made on it too. we understand it we have the best testing in the world. that's why we show so many cases. we do more testing than anybody else we're doing great. ooh. excuse me. here i am. i'm here too what progress we've made on it too.

taking a look at the roadways west bound 580 out of tracy. that's where we are seeing most of our crowds this morning. no accidents but it is getting slow and go as you head through. as you head to the north flynn exit, sluggish speeds around 21 miles per hour. drive times are reflecting that we are in the yellow zone. the good news is west bound east shore freeway is okay. highway 4 is clear and 101 out of south bay, we are not seeing troubles. san jose ride if you are headed out early is looking good north bound. 101 out of san jose towards sfo, along the peninsula as well. bay bridge, toll plaza off to a good start, a light commute out of the east bay as you work into the city, no delays across upper deck. a nice ride across golden gate bridge. we are not dealing with any fog. that's good news. there is road work north of here but it doesn't look like it is causing too many brake lights. if you are commuting out of the east bay via san mateo bridge to the peninsula, that will take 13 minutes but traffic is free flowing in both directions.

nbc's tracie potts joining us. tracie, the president used to have a huge cash advantage. >> it turns out the president's raised a lot of money but spent a lot of money since taking office in 2017 the president raised over a billion dollars, but right now joe biden has a big cash advantage because of the money that the trump campaign has spent. let's take a look. according to the "associated press" and financial disclosures, the trump campaign has about $63 million left, just over $63 million that's three times less, almost three times less than what we're seeing with the biden campaign they've got about $17 p million, and we're seeing a lot of that being spent on ads so where did the trump money go? $10 million on a super bowl ad before there was a nominee, 7 million at the trump properties, 6 million on trump merchandise and $43 million in legal fees related to the president's impeachment. murphy said today, quote, you could literally have ten monkeys with flamethrowers go after the money, and they wouldn't have b
