she was the attorney for trayvon martin's family and jose baez the former attorney for casey anthony. a lot of experience in florida with this happened. martin going through the whole background here, this is about three years after zimmerman shot and killed trayvon martin. you represented the martin family. when you hear this today, what could you think? >> i think that it's very relevant to the protests that are going on today and the black lives matter movement. i'm really seeing favoritism towards george zimmerman. we saw the whole case that trayvon martin was based on who was the aggressor. and we keep seeing over and over this aggressiveness from george zimmerman. and it just seems as though we were reminded back to what happened with trayvon that the protests were about how the police gave zimmerman favoritism. and here we see it over again. he has never been arrested or charged for any of these things that he has done with people. >> all right. jose, what do you think? favoritism towards george zimmerman? is that what we're seeing? >> well i agree with natalie to a certain ext

since being found not guilty in the shooting death of teenager trayvon martin in july 2013, zimmerman has had several run-ins with the law. a few weeks after being acquitted, he was stopped for speeding near dallas, texas. he told police he had a gun in the car. it was determined to be legal and zimmerman was give an warning for speeding. in november of that year, zimmerman got into a fight with his then-girlfriend. he was arrested for aggravated assault and domestic violence battery, but when she asked the charges to be dropped, he was never prosecuted. and this past january, zimmerman was arrested on another domestic violence charge. he allegedly threw a wine bottle at his girlfriend. she later recanted and charges were never filed. scott, a police department spokeswoman says investigators have not yet determined how or why this latest altercation began. >> pelley: mike deforest in orlando for us tonight. mike, thank you. there was a memorial service today in hattiesburg, mississippi, for two police officers gunned down over the weekend during a traffic stop. this afternoon four sus

that he had just been involved in a shooting. >> reporter: this time, the man who fatally shot trayvon martin in 2012 and was later acquitted of second degree murder, was the one who was shot at. in this same honda pickup he'd used to follow martin. you can see that bullethole through the passenger window. the truck being towed. an eyewitness telling abc news the shooter apparently calling 911 on himself. >> heard him say, you know i'm matt apperson this has been an ongoing dispute. this is the third incident. i saw a gun and so i shot george zimmerman. >> reporter: zimmerman's lawyer telling abc news the man in the car was tailing zimmerman, flashing his lights and honking before he shot at him. zimmerman was unhurt and released from the hospital. zimmerman has had a slew of run-ins with the law. from speeding in texas to domestic violence in florida. >> you put your gun in my freaking face. >> reporter: those charges were all dropped, but david, we just learned that zimmerman was, in fact, carrying a gun during today's incident. police are still investigating whether or not he brandished it

you marched today with sabrina fulton, the mother of trayvon martin.w you spent a lot of time with her during that entire case. here's somewhat she had to say about the charges when we asked her. >> although they might be charged, they have not been convicted of anything. and in our case with trayvon martin the person was charged, yes they were charged and we had a fuel trial. but at the end of the day he was not convicted. so he's walking around just like anybody else as if he has done nothing. >> and that's the issue reverend for many people. there were charges but not a conviction. you didn't get a conviction with trayvon matter. with michael brown in ferguson. in 20 years 17 police officers in in the u.s. have been charged with murder. none of those officers were convicted. will baltimore be any different? >> it is my hope, and that is the prayer of so many people around this city and even the larger world when you see that the protests now are rising up in philadelphia chicago, d.c. and new york. all of us are getting in line because it's not real

in the case of trayvon martin, the local police department had precious little to do with it.hey nonetheless launched an investigation into whether the local police department was -- had a pattern or practice of denying people their civil rights. that, when the issue was really the use by essentially a private person of the florida statute that -- the stand your ground statute. that has nothing to do with the police. so this has happened in roughly 20 cities across the country. and what happens is, the cities don't have the money to litigate against the justice department. in the connection an of an investigation like this. so they essentially cave in and accept some monitor or supervision. and the result is not a happy one from the standpoint of the citizens. i think the best example of that, the museum quality specimen, if you will is seattle. where they had one of these monitors and where the crime rate has gone through the roof. lou: so this is not likely to be trusted as a panacea, the request of an examination by the mayor of her conduct and her responsibility over a dep

. >> you represented george zimmerman in the trayvon martin case. in that case, many legal experts from the outside looking in said there was overcharging in that circumstance. was there overcharging in this case as far as you can determine today? >> well, you know, in the zimmerman case, i think that the prosecutor -- i and other people believe that she overcharged it to sort of quell the concerns that she had with the african-american community because it was an election year. and that turned out to be true. in this case, i think the prosecutor took a very aggressive stance in charging six cops. now, look at it from the outside. she said six out of six cops are guilty of a crime. that's extraordinary. and to do that, i think, is a true statement. she needs to be very careful. i think she's allowed to be aggressive in her prosecution. that's what she's done. and she's given herself a lot of room to negotiate with some of the lesser charged, even maybe for the most serious charged individual to plea him down. but it is, again, a very delicate balanc
