trevor noah brought up an southnt that happened in africa. he was talking about how in south africa a man was arrested and convicted for 12 years for using the n-word. they were that strong about racism. i met a gentleman in charlottesville at one of the monuments. he was from germany. he said he was confused. didn't understand how a city or a country could have monuments of a person who lost the battle. why do we have monuments of people who lost this battle? he said, in germany they don't have statues up of hitler and mussolini, those guys that lost the battle, so why do we have it up there? i had to sit and explain to him the thinking behind it, that whoever put these statues up, their thought was that putting these statues up in these predominately black neighborhoods to try to suppress minorities, to try to make them remember to put them down, to , try to hold them back. he told me that should be illegal. this guy is visiting our country and said it should be illegal. i don't know how come it is making it that hard for our own congressio

. >> trevor noah got into a behind the scenes discussion of how do you differentiate for descend t descendentsves or others who suffered other injfrsustice. i thought his response was interesting. >> reparations is a specific conversation about a specific time in america and that is black people who were slaves. i even heard people say there was some of the irish. slavery. look at the numbers, look at the time. look at the level of work. you could not work toward your freedom. for most black people in america, you lived and died as a slave. that's what reparations is about. >> it's not compensation for something lost. it's a bigger issue than that and resulted in today's wealth inequality. >> absolutely. that reparations are financial investments that are directly tied to the institution of slavery and its legacy. part of what the example that was given shows there are ways that certain forms of privilege and certain groups that were s discriminated against they were able to integrate into society in ways that jim crow extended slavery than made slavery completely obliterated. >> let me put up

trevor noah said you were the exact opposite of trump in many regards. going so far as to say you were the antitrump. however, similarer to trump you lack experience. how would you use this as an advantage? >> in many ways experience is my answerer to the question of age. i get my experience is not the most conventional but unlike this president i have experience in government, as i often point out. i got not only more experience in government than the president but more executive experience than the vice president, more military experience than anybody in the office since george h.w. bush. and frankly the lack of action that's happened on issues from climate to college affordability to making sure that we do something about the fiscal sustainability of this country. look, everyone coming into the office brings the combination of life and professional experiences that they have plus their values. but i would argue it doesn't get very much morer different. it's not possible to be different from this president. and i think we need a lilt more of that local

i don't know if any of you watch trevor noah, he brought up an stint that happened in south africa. he was talking about how a man was actually arrested and convicted for 12 years for using the n word. they were that strong about racism. i met a gentleman in charlottesville from one of the monuments, and he was for germany. he said he was confused, how old could a city or country have monuments of a personal that lost the battle. why do we have monuments of people that lost this battle? he said in germany they don't have statutes of hitler and others who lost battles, so why do we? and i had to explain to him the thinking behind it. they put the statutes up in black neighborhoods to try to suppress them, put them down, hold them back, and he told me that should be illegal. he is visiting our country and he said it should be illegal. don't know why it is that hard for our own congressional leaders to understand that we need to do something about this now. it's not something that we can just talk about doing. we need to do something about it now. yes, we're starting at the grass roots
