tri valley, just as cloudy. if we put numbers, everybody is in the mid to upper 50s in immediate bay, a warm 60 for san jose, a cool 54 in petaluma. that's our spread from 54 in petaluma to 60 in san jose. there is the extent of the clouds. you see it does have the entire bay area at least for now looking at gray skies, extends to the tri valley. you see the south bay certainly in the immediate bay and there is the north bay. bring it forward and play to the late morning and early afternoon. clouds will melt all the way back to the beach or i should say to the immediate part of the bay and golden gate by about noon today. i think this will be one of those days where you see marine layer creeping in like the classic june gloom will for the city and maybe even part of the east bay. by the time we get to late afternoon it does burn back to just beaches. we all get sunshine for most of today unless you are at the beach and it builds back in over night. meantime, there is our significant change in the weather coming

that's the view showing up as we look across the tri valley. let's put numbers on this if you are ready to step outside. we are in the mid 50s most locations, 57 hayward, 56 santa rosa, 57 livermore. that marine layer is going to burn back. it's pretty widespread but slowly mounts back by the time we have gotten to the 10:00 hour. it is back into the immediate bay. we'll have cleared it out of the tri valley and 680 by the time we get to 10:30 in the morning. it really doesn't clear to the coast and golden gate until early afternoon today. it will be one of those days. as far as daytime highs, we'll see numbers that come in right where they should for this time of year. that means low 80s for much of the south bay, 85 campbell, 77 in san mateo. valleys of the east bay, numbers will be in the mid to upper 80s for daytime highs, back in the immediate bay and marin, we will see low to mid 70s for most locations, in the bay that is. it starts to get hot into clear lake, into lake county, mendocino county. that's where we still have a heat advisory

if you have evening plans around the tri valley it will be cooling into the low 70s until about 8:00 tonight. so light jacket weather. out through 9:00 tonight, temperatures staying fairlily mild. as you see the dry hillsides, i want to check in on the drought monitor. as of last week the bay area at the highest severity of the drought monitor, that's the exceptional drought. it was at about 29%, 29.9%, so just under 30%. what we saw this week is that all of the north bay now has fallen into that category, so the bay area now sits at 36.5% in the exceptional drought category. this includes all of contra costa county towards solano county and the north bay. look at the temperatures. those are not typos. it is where the seven-day forecast will be heading later next week. enjoy the fog and misty skies for now. low clouds start the morning. upper 50s. highs tomorrow, actually tomorrow into monday may trend a little cooler, near 80 degrees in san jose before the big warm-up the second half of next week. mid 80s around the tri-valley towards fairfield, still near 60s near san francisco and

there it is in the south bay, tri valley, valleys of north bay have it.hour, it's melted back so it is just in the immediate bay. we'll see sunshine inland by 10:00. by late morning, it will go all the way back to the beaches. this is classic for june gloom. it will stay gray at the beaches pretty much all day. we'll still see it from the golden gate for much of the day. as a result temperatures stay well behaved. daytime highs are going to the low and mid 80s in the south bay. it will only be 77 for the daytime high today. fremont. 77 san mateo. 88 concord, 85 livermore, danville is 85. pleasanton is 80. a three to five degree warm up from yesterday. low 80s for may republicans. notice the heat into lake and mendocino. this is one area where we do have an issue. a heat advisory today through lake for daytime highs that will get to the low 100s. clear lake going to 102. with not as much access to on shore flow and marine layer and being so much further north, you are now far enough north that you are feeling impacts of that oppressive heat dome that's got

the tri-valley did reach the low 90s, cooling quickly to 70 degrees. and there you see the distance. some of that smoke i'm talking about moving the willow fire. these are the skies of san jose, 68 degrees. speaking of the willow fire, we had more wind picking up during the day today, so we saw that smoke column rise up, push more smoke to the south bay and parts of the east bay. again, the wind aloft as we show you the air pollution impact away from the willow fire. you can see how this kind of curves up past gilroy up to the diablo range. higher up in the atmosphere, thankfully we're still looking at good to moderate. but i think if you're in the salinas valley, you may see some of that smoke drain into the valleys in the morning hours. we'll be watching that closely for the air quality impacts from the fire burning from the south. on the coast, low clouds thickening up as we head toward the morning. patchy low clouds moving locally inland as well. this sets the stage for a cooling trend that will finally kick in for parts of the east bay tomorrow. s

tri valley over to concord and antioch. temperatures the warmest we will see around the bay area today. upper 80s to lows. 74 in oakland. 86 in freemont. a chilly day. half-moon day at 62 degrees with some low clouds at times. mid-60s to upper s closer to san francisco and south wind picking up into the north bay should keep temperatures in the 80s. but still for another day hot temperatures up towards clear lake. as you transition into monday and tuesday, notice how the numbers inland starting to drop off. we're seeing 70s and 80s inland and san francisco staying in the upper 60s. the coolest day of the week will be tuesday. but after that, high pressure will try to make a bit of a comeback. by the end of the week, it is possibly for areas inland mainly off to the north of solano county as a strong high building up, we could see those temperatures starting to build up again late friday into saturday. check out the ten day temperature outlook for san jose. notice how comfortable and cool things are. by the weekend into the

that is the view over the tri- valley. just before sunrise, this is a time-lapse. we are going to watch this for a second. couple of things show up here. you can see how clear we started out in the tri-valley, even overnight. it was clear skies. good- looking stars. as the sun comes up, watch the hills here start lighting and what a little bit of haze out there shows you clearly where the inversion is. we've still got high pressure holding the haze and the dust in the atmosphere in place. we start a gorgeous day in most of the bay area. maybe you're waking up now and the sunrise has already happened. there is your replay. here is the view from the top of the mark hopkins. it is not quite as clear in the immediate bay. we are not looking at a gray out this morning from the marine layer but we do have some patchy mid-level clouds that have been drifting right through the heart of the bay. not blocking our view from treasure island. the temperatures, mid-40s under clear skies in santa rosa. that is our only mid-40s location. everywhere else, temperatures are in the lo

the tri-valley is expected to remain rather warm. look at the 24-hour temperature change. a full forecast in a few minutes. back to you. >> sounds good. well, more changes are coming today for the vta light rail service as it remains shut down indefinitely after last week's murder of nine rail-yard employees. the vta was running a bus bridge to substitute for that light rail service which has been shut down since the shooting, but the transit agency says it can no longer offer that service and the light rail service will remain shut down indefinitely with no estimated time of reopening. vta says it's putting its employees first to give them team to grieve and process what happened when one of their co-workers shot and killed nine others last wednesday at a vta maintenance facility there in downtown san jose. regular vta bus service is still available. the funeral for one of the victims is set for sunday. 42-year-old paul mejia was an assistant superintendent. people who know and love him remember him as a loving family man whose last act was helping co-workers. learn more
